12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcelo Alves! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pittana misses with a few strikes there.
Alves scoring well with a low kick there.
Pittana throws a series of punches but Alves moves out of range. Pittana jabs at Alves's body. Pittana works the jab nicely.

enabling Alves to counter with a crisp jab. Pittana throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Pittana looks to land a combination but Alves avoids it well. Alessandro Pittana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Alves lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Nice shot lands for Pittana. Alves lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Alves uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pittana. Pittana throws a combination that misses and Alves counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Alves closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Alves thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pittana's head. Pittana wants to get back to his feet. Alves slips a nice elbow through Pittana's hands, connecting with Pittana's forehead. Pittana avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alves.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pittana is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Alves scores with a couple of nice shots. Ground and pound from Alves. Pittana is looking to escape. Alves not landing any meaningful shots this time. Pittana is trying to stand up here but Alves is controlling him well. Pittana avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alves. Pittana tries to kick Alves off but Alves keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Pittana is defending against the submission attempts here by Alves.

Alves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pittana keeps working. Alves has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Alves seems to be working for a kimura but Pittana defends the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves working over Pittana with some ground and pound. Pittana looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Pittana is looking to escape. Alves wants to control but Pittana is keeping him busy. Pittana knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alves on the ground. Alves works his way into side control. Alves in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Alves looks up at the clock and then as Pittana takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Alves smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Alves lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Alves working the head and body with strikes. Pittana wants to get back to his feet but Alves drags him back down. Pittana tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Alves pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Pittana is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves scoring with strikes but Pittana is staying in there. Oh Pittana is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Pittana is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Alves landing strikes from the mount and Pittana is in trouble! Alves swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

A relieved looking Marcelo Alves thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
