Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guillermo Morales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ortiz comes to the cage accompanied by Royce Da 5'9-Boom. Carlos Ortiz is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Ortiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Guillermo Morales!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ortiz tries for a takedown but Morales sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Ortiz drives through and clinches with Morales against the cage.
Morales is trying to drag Ortiz to the mat but Ortiz just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Ortiz breaks from the clinch.
Ortiz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ortiz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Morales lands with a slapping head kick.

Ortiz moves into the clinch.
Ortiz tries a body shot but Morales blocks it.
Ortiz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Morales avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Ortiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ortiz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ortiz closes the distance and clinches up with Morales, looking for a takedown. Ortiz pushes Morales against the cage but Morales circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ortiz tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ortiz shoots in for a double leg but Morales sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

No joy there for Morales, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
No luck for Ortiz with that takedown attempt.
Ortiz is breathing heavily.
Horrible takedown by Ortiz or perhaps it was just good defense by Morales which made him look bad.
Ortiz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Morales.
Ortiz dives in and grabs Morales's left leg, looking for a takedown. Morales pushes down on Ortiz's head and hops out.
Ortiz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Morales is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Morales will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Morales throws a right and a left that both miss.
Horrible takedown by Ortiz or perhaps it was just good defense by Morales which made him look bad.

Morales moves into range and clinches up with Ortiz.

Morales is trying to hold Ortiz in close to prevent damage but Ortiz has managed to pass into half guard.

Ortiz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Morales does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ortiz wants to advance to full mount but Morales doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Morales is on top in guard.

Ortiz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Carlos Ortiz will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Morales throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Ortiz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Morales is looking to land body kicks.
Morales dodges the punch combination from Ortiz.
Morales shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ortiz defends it nicely.
Morales wants to clinch.

Morales throws a lazy head kick

and Ortiz counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Morales blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ortiz.
Ortiz wants to control but Morales is keeping him busy.
Ortiz thows a huge punch but Morales dodges it nicely.
Morales regains full guard. Nicely done.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ortiz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Morales wants to stand and escape but Ortiz is having none of it.

Morales is working an open guard so Ortiz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Ortiz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Morales, pushing him back against the cage.

Ortiz pulls guard effortlessly.
Ortiz tries to strike from the bottom.
Morales trying to control the position from guard on top but Ortiz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ortiz trying to keep a closed guard but Morales is proving a slippery customer.
Morales advances to half guard.
Morales is trying to control the action in half guard but Ortiz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Ortiz wants to get back to his feet.
Morales stalling.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Morales throws a head kick that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Morales.
Ortiz shoots in and drives through. Morales sprawls well.
Ortiz dives in and grabs Morales's left leg, looking for a takedown. Morales pushes down on Ortiz's head and hops out.

Morales has a takedown stuffed.
Carlos Ortiz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Guillermo Morales.
Morales blocks a head kick by Ortiz.
Morales shoots for a double leg takedown but Ortiz sprawls well. He's pushed Morales's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Morales throws a push kick but Ortiz slaps the foot to one side.
Morales throws a head kick but Ortiz moves out of range.
Ortiz stuffs the takedown attempt from Morales. Morales gets slowly back to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ortiz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Morales tries to avoid it but Ortiz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Morales to the ground. Morales escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ortiz misses with a body kick.
Morales lands with a nice body kick.
Ortiz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Morales but Morales pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Morales has managed to clinch.
Ortiz tries to pull guard but Morales won't allow it.

Morales tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Morales drags the fight down to the ground.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Morales throws his legs up looking for a submission but Ortiz uses it to pass to side control.
Ortiz gets to mount! Morales was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Morales is trying desperately to improve position.
Carlos Ortiz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Morales is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Morales is squirming around, avoiding Ortiz's attempts to control the action.
You get the feeling that Morales really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Ortiz controlling the position easily from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ortiz throwing strikes here but Morales is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Morales is squirming around, avoiding Ortiz's attempts to control the action.
Morales wants to control but Ortiz is having none of it.

Ortiz misses with a head shot.
Ortiz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Morales wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Ortiz.

Morales tries to hold on but Ortiz postures up.
Morales can't escape the position.

Morales is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Ortiz trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Ortiz avoids the attempt from Morales to control.
Ortiz throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Morales because Ortiz loaded up on that one.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ortiz content just to control the position here.
Morales is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Carlos Ortiz.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ortiz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Carlos Ortiz decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
