PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cliff Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggie Lafleur (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cliff Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Reggie Lafleur!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lafleur throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Lafleur pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Harris throws a hook but Lafleur avoids it easily.
Harris lands with a thumping leg kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Harris lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Harris shoots and misses
and Lafleur cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Lafleur moves in looking to clinch but Harris pushes him off.
A head kick misses from Harris.
Lafleur tries a head kick but it misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lafleur blocks a head kick by Harris.
Harris fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lafleur manages to avoid it.

Harris moves into range and clinches up with Lafleur.

Lafleur has picked Harris up - he's going for a ride! Lafleur dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Lafleur seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Harris is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lafleur pulls his head out easily.
Harris moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Lafleur gets to his feet - Harris follows without any prompting.
Good standup being displayed there by Harris as he connects with a hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A jab from Harris finds it's way through Lafleur's defenses.
Lafleur swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Harris shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lafleur as he jumps to the side.

enabling Lafleur to counter with a crisp jab.
Harris misses with a hook.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harris slips under a jab.
Harris moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Lafleur looks to land a combination but Harris avoids it well.
Harris fails to land with a series of punches.
Harris throws out a leg kick but Lafleur moves out of range and Harris only half commits.
Good exchange - Harris coming out on top.
Harris shoots in looking for a takedown but Lafleur manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Harris's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cliff Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lafleur works the jab nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Harris throws a head kick but Lafleur moves out of range.
Lafleur throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A looping hook to the body misses from Harris. Lafleur does a little dance to reset his feet.
Harris dodges the punch combination from Lafleur.
Harris throws a head kick but Lafleur moves out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sloppy strikes from Lafleur. Those never looked like landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cliff Harris will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Harris looking to score a takedown here. Lafleur is defending well but Harris drives through and ends up in Lafleur's guard.
Lafleur will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Harris won't allow Lafleur to get back to his feet.
Lafleur not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Lafleur working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Harris doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Harris manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Harris is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lafleur is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Harris drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Harris jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Harris avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Harris throws a big elbow that misses.

Lafleur has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Harris can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Lafleur looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Harris slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Lafleur wants to sweep here but Harris controlling him for the moment.
Lafleur trying to keep a closed guard but Harris is proving a slippery customer.
Lafleur might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Harris kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Harris has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Harris postures up in Lafleur's guard and throws a big left but Lafleur blocks it.

Harris works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Harris is keen to just control but Lafleur is a slippery customer.
Lafleur scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Harris manages to mount him!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
BOOM! Harris connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Harris prevents Lafleur from getting the reversal.
Lafleur is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Harris can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lafleur is looking to escape.
Lafleur trying desperately to get to his feet.
Harris controlling his opponent.

Harris putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lafleur squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Lafleur is squirming around, avoiding Harris's attempts to control the action.
Harris takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lafleur wants to try and get back to his feet.

Cliff Harris dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Harris feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Lafleurs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Lafleur steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Harris.

Harris instigates a clinch.
Lafleur tries to break the clinch but Harris is controlling the position.
Harris swings wildly with an uppercut but Lafleur uses good head movement to avoid it.

Lafleur has had enough of the clinch but Harris keeps him there for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Harris lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.


It looks like Reggie Lafleur has been cut.
Harris has Lafleur pressed against the cage, preventing Lafleur from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Lafleur breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Harris takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Harris thows a leg kick but Lafleur checks it
and Lafleur counters with a flying knee. Nice.
A swing and a miss from Harris.
Harris throws a chopping leg kick but Lafleur manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Cliff Harris is winning the standup battle so far.
Harris throws a shot from downtown. Lafleur moves away and avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Harris moves in looking to clinch but Lafleur pushes him off.
Lafleur throws a head kick that Harris semi-blocks.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Harris misses with a hook. Lafleur ducked under it nicely.
Harris tries for a takedown but Lafleur sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Lafleur moves out of range of the body kick from Harris.
Harris looks to land a left hand but Lafleur moved out of range nicely.
Harris throws the kick towards the body but Lafleur avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harris doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Lafleur connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Harris misses with a head kick.
Reggie Lafleur has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Harris shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lafleur sprawls well. Lafleur wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Harris gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cliff Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lafleur fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Harris looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lafleur forces Harris back against the cage and clinches.
Lafleur has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Harris is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Lafleur tries to circle away but Harris has him pinned against the cage.
Harris misses with a punch to the body.
A short uppercut from Harris.

Lafleur breaks the clinch.
Harris fails with a takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Harris throws the left hand but Lafleur avoids the punch easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Reggie Lafleur.
Well Harris has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
