PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cole Tessier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bingo Star (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Star has chosen Octopus's garden as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Cole Tessier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bingo Star!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tessier tries to land a front kick but Star steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Star on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Tessier misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Star.
No joy there for Star, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Tessier attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Star looks to land a left hand but Tessier moved out of range nicely.
Tessier takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
A cross from Tessier lands.
Tessier pivots, looking for a leg kick but Star is out of range and Tessier settles back down.
Tessier doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Star counters with a right hand to the body.

Star lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Tessier throws a combination. Star tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Star throws a leg kick that is checked
and Tessier counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Tessier misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The crowd cheers as Star lands an impressive looking overhand right. Tessier doesn't seem phased though.
An inside leg kick lands from Star.
Star ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Tessier moves away.
Tessier throws a combination. Star tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
A slow jab from Star misses its intended target.
No joy there for Tessier, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Star throws a leg kick which misses Tessier's front leg but catches the back leg as Tessier tries to avoid it.
Tessier tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Star lands a jab to Tessier's midsection.

Star tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Tessier manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Tessier jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Tessier shoots in but Star avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Star tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tessier swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Star connects with a solid leg kick.
Tessier getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Tessier sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Tessier swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Star misses with a right hand
and Tessier counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Star moves into the clinch.

Tessier wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Tessier has clasped his hands together around Star's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Tessier is looking to take a break and control but Star is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Star manages to work his way to half guard, despite Tessier's best efforts.
Star tries to get to full guard but Tessier has control of the leg.

Star has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tessier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Tessier wants to control from the top but Star keeps moving.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tessier is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Star is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Star wants to control but Tessier is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Tessier lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Tessier thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cole Tessier will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Tessier wants to work for an arm triangle but Star is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Tessier connects with a nice short shot to Star's temple.

Tessier is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Star has managed to free his arm - good work.
Star regains full guard. Nicely done.

Tessier stands and throws Star's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Star is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Star must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Star stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tessier swivels though and keeps the full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Tessier is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Star has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Star creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Tessier sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cole Tessier will probably get the nod.

Star swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Tessier lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Star thuds his right hand into Tessier's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Star throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tessier.
Star dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Tessier. That did some damage!
Star scores with a jab. Tessier acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Star looks to land a left hand but Tessier moved out of range nicely.

Star moves in looking to clinch but Tessier pushes him off.

Star has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Star there as he acknowledges the shot.
Star throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Star throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tessier.
Bingo Star seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tessier lands with an uppercut that bounces Star off the cage and back into range.

Star throws a head kick but Tessier moves out of range.
Tessier bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Star's head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cole Tessier is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Tessier avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Tessier closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Star's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bingo Star has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
A frustrated look appears on Tessier's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Star tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Tessier avoids it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to Bingo Star.
Well Tessier has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
