PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Simeon Grundy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyell Gold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grundy kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Enter Sandman. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simeon Grundy!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kyell Gold!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gold with a lazy takedown attempt
and Grundy counters with a left to the body.
Gold takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Grundy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gold.
Gold shoots in but Grundy avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gold throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Grundy's waist but Grundy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gold off to one side.
Simeon Grundy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyell Gold.
Grundy looks to land a body kick but Gold moved away.
Gold shoots in looking for a takedown but Grundy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gold's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Gold fails to land the takedown.
Donk. Grundy catches Gold right on the button with a cross.
Nice cross by Grundy.
Gold dives in and grabs Grundy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Grundy pushes down on Gold's head and hops out.
Grundy throws a sloppy head kick and Gold moves out of range easily.
Grundy lands a really nice looking cross but Gold seems unphased.
Gold moves out of range as Grundy strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice straight punches there by Grundy. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Grundy.
Grundy throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Grundy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gold misses with a takedown attempt
and Grundy makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Gold shoots in and bounces Grundy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Gold preventing the sweep.

Grundy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gold defends it easily.
Gold missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Gold stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Grundy swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gold scoring with some ground and pound.
Gold has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Grundy is looking for a triangle here but Gold uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Grundy prevents Gold from moving into mount.

Gold is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Grundy has escaped the position, nice work there.

Gold working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Gold working the ground and pound but Grundy is defending the strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grundy tries to improve position but can't.

Gold tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gold misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Grundy manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Grundy wants to take a breather but Gold is having none of it.
Gold keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Gold is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Grundy pulls his head out easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gold has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Grundy is working away from the top position though.

Grundy is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gold doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Grundy.

Gold looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gold trying to control here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyell Gold dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Gold fails with the takedown
and Grundy counters with a slapping leg kick.
Gold uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Grundy.
Gold misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A solid leg kick lands there for Grundy.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Grundy, right into the meat.
Grundy misses with a double jab.

Grundy shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gold is trying to defend but Grundy finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Gold is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Grundy's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Grundy's back!
Kyell Gold has got the better of the ground game so far.
Grundy tries to break free.
Grundy turns into Gold and is now in his guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Grundy is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Gold has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Grundy is looking to defend but Gold has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Grundy! Gold pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Grundy taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kyell Gold!
