PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Mott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miller comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Michael Jackson's Thriller kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! John Mott has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, John Mott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Damian Miller!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller thuds his right hand into Mott's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Sloppy strikes from Miller. Those never looked like landing.
Miller throws a jab but it's blocked by Mott.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mott.
Damian Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Miller pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mott throws a series of punches but Miller avoids them all with ease.
Mott defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Miller.
Miller checks a leg kick.
Miller throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mott steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Miller.
Miller checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Miller throws a series of punches but Mott avoids them all with ease.
A bone on bone clash there as Miller blocks the leg kick.

Miller fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mott manages to avoid it.
Miller is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Miller connects with a good right hand that stumbles Mott. Mott circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Mott throws a low kick, looking for Miller's leg but Miller calmly moves out of range.
Miller swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Mott.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Miller sizes up Mott with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Mott is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Miller must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mott manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Miller manages to get himself to full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Miller fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mott.

Mott shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Miller as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Mott. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mott tries to keep at a distance but Miller has taken the fight into the clinch.

Miller's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Miller throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Miller lands with a nice body punch.
Mott misses with a double jab.

and Mott cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Miller shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mott's guard.

Mott is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Mott has Miller pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mott pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Miller tumbling to the mat - Mott dives into Miller's guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Damian Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Mott doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mott enables Miller to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mott manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Mott has his foot on Miller's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Miller works his way back into a safe position though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mott is trying to get back to full guard.

Miller wants to free his trapped foot but Mott is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Miller connects with a nice short shot to Mott's temple.
Miller seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mott does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee warns Mott that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Damian Miller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Miller has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Damian Miller decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
