The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Light shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rodriguez's guard.
Rodriguez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Light trying to control but Rodriguez is working from the bottom.
Light is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Light drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rodriguez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rodriguez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rodriguez!
Light sneaks back into half guard.
Light is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rodriguez pulls his head out easily.
Rodriguez trying to mount his opponent but Light defends it.
Light might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Light is pressing down on Rodriguez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Light wants to improve his position but instead Rodriguez has moved into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Light regains full guard. Nicely done.
Light pushes a forearm under Rodriguez's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Rodriguez is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
