Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, ur Down! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Namba Babakla! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Babakla. Those never looked like landing. Down throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Babakla changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Down looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. An elbow from Babakla crashes against the mat.
Babakla misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Down tries to get back to half guard but can't. Down is working hard here to advance position. Babakla throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Babakla tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Babakla remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Down is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Babakla has just dragged him back down to the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Babakla is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Down's shoulder. That is not cool. Babakla fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Babakla throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Down works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Babakla not doing much here.
Babakla missing with the ground and pound from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Babakla is taking a breather. Down says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Let's hope that Babakla has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. It looks like Babakla might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Namba Babakla has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Babakla gets a takedown into half guard. Down avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Babakla. Babakla slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Down is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Babakla pulls his head out easily. Babakla is controlling the pace.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Down regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Babakla.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Babakla throwing strikes but missing. Babakla controls from within his opponent's guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Namba Babakla. Down moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Down lunges at Babakla with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Babakla's hand. Babakla gets a double leg takedown into Down's guard. Babakla throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Down works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Down can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Babakla controls the pace. Babakla throws a strike but Down rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Babakla throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Babakla throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Down has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Down is pushing down on Babakla's leg trying to pass to half guard. Babakla is fighting to maintain full guard but Down has managed to sneak the leg through. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Babakla missing with punches from the bottom.
Babakla throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Namba Babakla dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Down misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Babakla tries to bum rush Down with a series of wild strikes but Down uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Down fails with the takedown. Down throws a series of punches but Babakla avoids them all with ease. Nice takedown defense from Babakla. No joy for Down on that attempt. Down throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Down gets caught napping as Babakla dives in and scores a takedown. Down manages to retain guard. Babakla working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Babakla not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Babakla throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Babakla controls from within his opponent's guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Babakla with a flurry of punches that miss. Babakla seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Namba Babakla. Down misses with a takedown attempt and Babakla decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Down's guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for ur Down. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Babakla sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Down's guard. Babakla thows a huge punch but Down dodges it nicely.
Babakla in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Down tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Babakla!
