Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danny Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mario Maci (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Danny Wilson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mario Maci! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilson looks to clinch and Maci counters with a two punch combo. Wilson moves in looking to clinch but Maci pushes him off. Maci swats away the attempt to clinch by Wilson. Maci dips down and scores with a jab to the body. A combination from Maci does no damage. Wilson tries to close the distance and clinch but Maci swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Maci swings for the body but Wilson moves out of range.
Wilson wants to clinch but Maci slips to the side and Maci counters with a one-two to the body. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Wilson rushes Maci and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Wilson is defending well against a takedown attempt. Wilson landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

It looks like Mario Maci has been cut. Maci has Wilson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Wilson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Danny Wilson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mario Maci. Wilson throws a knee to the head but misses.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Wilson pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage. Maci breaks the clinch.
Wilson tries to clinch but fails miserably and Maci counters with a left and a right that stings Wilson. Wilson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Maci manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Danny Wilson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Wilson closes the distance and clinches. Maci is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Wilson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Wilson putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Maci in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Maci turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Wilson is trying to control Maci's posture but Maci avoids it. Wilson pushes Maci away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Maci gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Wilson wants to control but Maci postures up. Maci throws an elbow but Wilson slips to the side and avoids it well. Wilson is pushing Maci's head away, looking to escape. Maci manages to hold on to the position though. Maci is looking to take a break and control but Wilson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Wilson wants to control but Maci postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maci has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Wilson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Maci swats him away and circles back towards the center. Wilson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Maci scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. This has been an exciting period of action! A combination from Maci does no damage. The fight stays on the outside here - Wilson looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Excellent takedown into side control there by Maci. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Wilson is trying to control Maci's posture but Maci avoids it. Wilson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Maci has just dragged him back down to the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Danny Wilson will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Mario Maci's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Maci lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wilson circles away quickly and effectively. Wilson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maci, pushing him back against the cage. A bit of stalling here from Wilson.
Wilson tries to land knees in the clinch but Maci avoids the damage to the body. Maci goes for a takedown attempt but Wilson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Wilson wants to clinch up but Maci keeps it at a distance. Maci is breathing heavily. A looping hook to the body misses from Maci. Wilson does a little dance to reset his feet. Wilson tries to clinch but Maci is having none of it. Wilson fails in his attempt to clinch.

Maci tries to clinch up but Wilson circles away and keeps his distance. Mario Maci seems to be getting the better of the standup. Maci tries to clinch there but Wilson circles away.

Wilson's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Wilson seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression. Maci has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wilson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Wilson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Wilson can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight. Maci has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wilson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Wilson looking to throw knees to the head but Maci is blocking nicely.
