Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between VJ Kiwi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Vieira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kiwi's entrance music is Redlight - Get Out My Head. A fine choice. VJ Kiwi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, VJ Kiwi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Leo Vieira!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kiwi drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Kiwi wants to pass the guard but Vieira is keeping the position.
Kiwi controlling from the top position.
Kiwi trying to control but Vieira is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kiwi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Kiwi is looking to take a break and control but Vieira is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Vieira tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kiwi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Kiwi swings around for an armbar but Vieira sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kiwi's guard.

Kiwi wriggles free and stands up.

Kiwi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kiwi showed some decent athleticism there.
Kiwi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Kiwi seems to be looking for submissions.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Kiwi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Vieira doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kiwi.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vieira wants to get back to his feet.

Vieira has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kiwi is working away from the top position though.

Kiwi misses with a double jab

and Vieira counters by moving into the clinch.

Kiwi is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Vieira can't fight it off and eventually Kiwi manages to take the fight to the floor. Vieira looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kiwi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kiwi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
VJ Kiwi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kiwi wants to pass the guard but Vieira is keeping the position.

Kiwi is stalling here. Vieira is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kiwi seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Vieira has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Kiwi tries to buck Vieira off but Vieira is having none of it.

Vieira thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Vieira wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kiwi, who protects the arm well.
Kiwi is looking to regain half guard here but Vieira keeps moving and retains side control.

Kiwi is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Vieira looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kiwi is looking to control Vieira's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kiwi avoid being mounted?
Kiwi looks like he's trying to stand up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Vieira is not content to let Kiwi control the position.
Vieira is letting Kiwi control him for a moment.

Kiwi closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Vieira quickly recovers to half guard.
Kiwi trying to pass the guard but Vieira defending well.
Vieira is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kiwi scores with a couple of nice shots.
Vieira is looking for a sweep. Kiwi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kiwi wants to free his trapped foot but Vieira is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kiwi stalling.
Kiwi is keen to just control but Vieira is a slippery customer.

Still in half guard, Kiwi seems content to control.
Kiwi prevents Vieira from improving his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up because VJ Kiwi just wasn't active enough.
Kiwi throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kiwi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Kiwi gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kiwi wants to stand but Vieira is controlling the position.
Vieira must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
VJ Kiwi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Kiwi manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Vieira shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kiwi sprawls well. Kiwi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vieira gets slowly back to his feet.

Kiwi is trying to stand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vieira is thwarting Kiwi's attempts to control the position.

Kiwi wriggles free and stands up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Vieira shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kiwi as he avoids it easily.
Kiwi throws a half hearted mid kick.

Kiwi drives through with a takedown into Vieira's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Kiwi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Vieira is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Vieira has escaped and now he's on top!

Vieira is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kiwi swinging wildly here.
Leo Vieira has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kiwi misses with a hook. Vieira ducked under it nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Vieira tries to keep at a distance but Kiwi has taken the fight into the clinch.
Vieira is trying to pull guard but Kiwi turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
VJ Kiwi showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kiwi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
