PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Wayne McCullough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ritchie Swiper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Swiper is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: High Hopes. Ritchie Swiper is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Wayne McCullough!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Ritchie Swiper!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Donald Grub and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swiper shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McCullough but McCullough pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Swiper bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
McCullough moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Swiper fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
McCullough ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Swiper moves away.
McCullough wants to slow Swiper down by chopping away at his legs.

McCullough moves into the clinch successfully.
Swiper fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Wayne McCullough has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ritchie Swiper.
McCullough wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Swiper has him pressed against the cage.
Swiper is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McCullough pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Swiper fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Swiper's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
McCullough is looking to break free of the clinch but Swiper has double underhooks.

Swiper looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
McCullough slips nicely into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McCullough in particular looking to stall.
McCullough wants to stand up but Swiper is controlling the position.
Swiper is refusing to be controlled, as McCullough sits in half guard.

Swiper is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but McCullough pulls his head out easily.
Swiper tries to roll over but McCullough keeps him under control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Swiper works his way to full guard. Good work.
McCullough trying to control the position from guard on top but Swiper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

McCullough stands up from guard. Let's bang!
McCullough fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Swiper checks a leg kick.
Swiper gets cracked with a nice right hand there by McCullough.
McCullough misses the jab.
McCullough ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Swiper moves away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCullough misses with a wild combination.
McCullough is breathing heavily.
Swiper gets cracked with a nice right hand there by McCullough.
Swiper tries to clinch there but McCullough circles away.
The fighters circling - McCullough throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
McCullough throws a lazy right hand but Swiper sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
McCullough misses with a wild combination.
Wayne McCullough seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McCullough has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Swiper shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McCullough as he jumps to the side.
McCullough throws a combination that misses
and Swiper counters with a lovely shot to the body.
McCullough swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Swiper ducks under a wild hook from McCullough.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McCullough lands a really nice looking cross but Swiper seems unphased.
A low kick from McCullough is predictable there

and Swiper counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Swiper pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McCullough is keeping the position for now.
Swiper slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Swiper advances to mount.

Swiper looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Swiper jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McCullough manages to avoid the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ritchie Swiper will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


McCullough throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Swiper sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Swiper fails with a takedown attempt.
Swiper uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from McCullough.
McCullough looks to clinch
and Swiper counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
McCullough looks to land a combination but Swiper avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McCullough's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and McCullough duly obliges.
A big left from McCullough misses.
A choreographed right hand from McCullough misses the target.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McCullough rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Swiper moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

A shot to the body from McCullough misses
and McCullough takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Swiper shoots in looking for a takedown. McCullough tries to sprawl out of it but Swiper keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McCullough manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Swiper staying out of range there.
McCullough misses with a straight right.
McCullough throws a shot from downtown. Swiper moves away and avoids it.
McCullough ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Swiper moves away.
Swiper has a takedown stuffed.
Wayne McCullough has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ritchie Swiper.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Swiper.
Swiper looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McCullough is fending him off so far but Swiper persists. Nope, McCullough circles away and we're back to standing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Swiper slips under a jab from McCullough.
McCullough swinging wilding here.
McCullough swings for the body but Swiper moves out of range.
McCullough throws a leg kick that is checked

and Swiper counters with a takedown into side control.

Swiper is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McCullough has escaped the position, nice work there.

Swiper tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Swiper has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Swiper throws a strike aimed at the side of McCullough's head but McCullough avoids it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Swiper tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Swiper wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McCullough, who protects the arm well.

Swiper thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McCullough is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Swiper's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Swiper moves into full mount! McCullough won't be happy about that!

Swiper is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but McCullough is surviving well by controlling Swiper's body position as best he can.
McCullough prevents Swiper from taking his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ritchie Swiper will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


McCullough jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A combination from McCullough does no damage.
Swiper looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McCullough is fending him off so far but Swiper persists. Nope, McCullough circles away and we're back to standing.
McCullough misses with a looping left.
McCullough looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Swiper slips under a jab.

Swiper closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Swiper lands in his opponent's guard.
McCullough is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McCullough working a defensive guard but Swiper passes into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McCullough is in trouble now - Swiper has advanced to mount!
McCullough wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Swiper.
McCullough stops Swiper from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
McCullough really wants to buck Swiper off and get back to his feet.
Swiper blocks McCullough's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Swiper jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McCullough manages to avoid the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Swiper is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McCullough is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McCullough is trying to get back to half guard.

Swiper wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McCullough, who protects the arm well.
McCullough tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCullough prevents Swiper from moving into mount.
Swiper working away.
McCullough is pushing Swiper's head away, looking to escape. Swiper manages to hold on to the position though.

Swiper tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Swiper changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McCullough tries to avoid it but Swiper manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McCullough to the ground. McCullough escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Good standup being displayed there by McCullough as he connects with a hook.
McCullough misses with a hook. Swiper ducked under it nicely.
Swiper tries for a takedown but McCullough sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Wayne McCullough has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ritchie Swiper.
No luck for Swiper with that takedown attempt.
McCullough throws a head kick that misses

and Swiper counters by moving into the clinch.
McCullough is trying to break the clinch but Swiper has him pressed against the cage.
McCullough wants to get back to striking at distance but Swiper won't allow it.
McCullough tries to break the clinch but Swiper is controlling the position.
Swiper drops down looking for an ankle pick but McCullough pulls his leg out and moves away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ritchie Swiper comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Swiper winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
