Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Dominguez ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shawn Woolett! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dominguez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Woolett sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Woolett looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Dominguez is looking to clinch but Woolett is avoiding it.
Dominguez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Woolett did well to prevent Dominguez getting side control. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Dominguez working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Dominguez trying to control the action but Woolett is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dominguez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Dominguez wants to control but Woolett is keeping him busy. Woolett is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Woolett looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Dominguez wants to take a breather but Woolett is having none of it. Woolett is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Dominguez pulls his head out easily. Woolett is trying to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dominguez working over Woolett with some ground and pound. Woolett looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Dominguez seems to be working for a kimura but Woolett defends the submission attempt. Dominguez wants to stand up but Woolett has a hold of him and won't allow it. Dominguez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Woolett keeps working. Dominguez is looking to pass Woolett's guard but actually Woolett recovers to full guard. Dominguez trying to control the position from guard on top but Woolett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dominguez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Woolett working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dominguez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dominguez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Dominguez landing with the ground and pound. Dominguez distracts Woolett with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Woolett has a closed guard, preventing Dominguez from standing up. Woolett working for a triangle but Dominguez defends it easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dominguez trying to stand up but can't free himself from Woolett's guard. Woolett working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Dominguez has passed into half guard!
Dominguez is keen to just control but Woolett is a slippery customer. Dominguez is pressing down on Woolett's thigh, looking to free his foot. Woolett is holding on for now. Woolett looking for submissions off his back. Dominguez wants to pass to mount but Woolett is defending the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dominguez gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Dominguez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Woolett circles away. Dominguez shoots in and drives through. Woolett sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Dominguez . That's going to take a lot out of him. No luck for Dominguez with that takedown attempt. Dominguez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Woolett was covering up waiting for the punch and Dominguez finishes the takedown easily into guard. Dominguez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Dominguez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Woolett keeps the fight on the outside. Woolett shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Shawn Woolett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Dominguez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Woolett quickly recovers to half guard. Dominguez wants to control but Woolett is keeping him busy. Dominguez is looking for a kimura but Woolett is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dominguez to get the leverage. Dominguez working Woolett over with strikes. Dominguez trying to mount his opponent but Woolett defends it. Woolett is trying to get back to full guard. Woolett is breathing heavily. Dominguez seems to be working for a kimura but Woolett defends the submission attempt. Dominguez is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Woolett has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dominguez lands with a punch from half guard. Dominguez is just content to waste time from the top position. Woolett takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Woolett has a closed guard, preventing Dominguez from standing up. Dominguez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Woolett is keeping the position for now. Woolett is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Woolett in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Dominguez tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Woolett!
