Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Soze Cortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Valentin Lluca!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez tries for a takedown but Lluca circles away easily

and Lluca counters with a single leg into guard. Cortez didn't expect that.
Lluca throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cortez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Cortez pulls Lluca in close to his closed guard and prevents Lluca from doing any damage or advancing position.
Lluca throws a big elbow that misses.
Lluca pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cortez is keeping the position for now.
Cortez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lluca's guard.
Cortez wants to pass the guard but Lluca is keeping the position.
Cortez throws a big right hand that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cortez throwing strikes from guard but Lluca blocks nicely.
Cortez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Cortez lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Cortez stands and throws Lluca's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Lluca is not content to let Cortez control the position.
Cortez tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cortez tries to score with some ground and pound. Lluca controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Lluca tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cortez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cortez scores with a couple of short elbows.
Cortez scores with punches from side control.
Lluca is looking for a sweep.
Cortez throwing shots but missing, from side control.
The ground and pound from Cortez seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Lluca really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cortez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cortez in side control, throwing shots but Lluca defends.
Lluca parries the strikes from Cortez easily there. Cortez is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Lluca to escape.
Cortez working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sloppy strikes there by Cortez.
Cortez creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.


Lluca is rocked!


It looks like Valentin Lluca has been cut.
Cortez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cortez lands a big elbow and you can see that really hurt Lluca! Cortez senses the opportunity and scores with more strikes - he's put Lluca out! The ref tackles him out of the way to prevent him landing more strikes - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Soze Cortez!
During a confident post fight interview, Soze Cortez thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
