Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Barristan Selmy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cullen Castrello! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, John Kavanagh and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Selmy takes a swing at Castrello's ribcage but misses. Castrello will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Castrello slips a jab from Selmy. Castrello throws a nice head kick!
Castrello lands with an uppercut that bounces Selmy off the cage and back into range. Castrello has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Castrello there as he acknowledges the shot. Castrello misses with a kick to the body.
Selmy stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Castrello is looking to land body kicks. Castrello slips under a jab. and Selmy counters with a takedown into side control. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Selmy is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Castrello has escaped the position, nice work there. Castrello tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. The ground and pound from Selmy seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Castrello tries to bench press Selmy off him but Selmy keeps the position. Castrello manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Selmy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Castrello defends it well. Castrello is trying to control but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Selmy sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Castrello defending well though. Selmy prevents Castrello from improving his position. Selmy scoring with strikes to the body and head. Selmy seems to be working for a kimura but Castrello defends the submission attempt. Castrello wants to improve his position but Selmy is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Selmy slips a nice elbow through Castrello's hands, connecting with Castrello's forehead. Selmy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Castrello defends it well. Selmy sitting and controlling from the half guard. Selmy trying to control the action but Castrello is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Castrello is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Selmy is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Castrello doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Selmy. Selmy seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Barristan Selmy dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
A leg kick checked by Selmy. Castrello ducks under a wild hook from Selmy. Cullen Castrello seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Both fighters circling a little - Castrello finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Castrello misses with a low kick. A momentary lapse in concentration from Castrello enables Selmy to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Castrello manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Selmy preventing the sweep. Castrello looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Castrello is trying to hold Selmy in close to prevent damage but Selmy has managed to pass into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round. Selmy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Selmy is nestled in close to Castrello, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Castrello manages to get to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Castrello looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Selmy drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Castrello dives on top into guard. Castrello pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Selmy is keeping the position for now. Selmy on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Selmy tries to get out of the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Castrello got a little sloppy there for a moment and Selmy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Castrello has managed to get both his arms back between Selmy's legs - danger averted. Castrello wants to pass the guard but Selmy is keeping the position. Selmy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Selmy tries to land a sweep but no joy. Castrello wants to control from the top but Selmy keeps moving. Selmy looking for a guillotine here but Castrello defends easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Selmy wants to sweep but no luck. Selmy is pulling down on Castrello's head to control his posture. Castrello preventing the sweep. Castrello trying to control the position from guard on top but Selmy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Castrello stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Selmy swivels though and keeps the full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Barristan Selmy will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Nice body punch from Selmy. Selmy fails with a takedown attempt. Castrello throws a leg kick but Selmy sees it coming and moves out of range. Castrello fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Selmy manages to avoid it. Selmy misses with a hook. Selmy shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Selmy was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Selmy avoids the attempt from Castrello to control. Selmy has control of Castrello's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Castrello regains control of the situation pretty easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Selmy controlling from mount. Selmy lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Castrello hang on? Selmy with the ground and pound from mount. Selmy lands with some strikes. Cullen Castrello has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Selmy goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Castrello is on top in guard.
Castrello slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Castrello advances to full mount. Selmy wants to control but Castrello is having none of it. Selmy is squirming around, avoiding Castrello's attempts to control the action.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Selmy tries to get back to half guard but can't. Castrello can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Selmy is looking to escape. Selmy looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Selmy is in bad spot here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Selmy is working hard here to advance position. Selmy trying to control the hands but Castrello won't let him. Selmy is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Barristan Selmy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
And that's the end of the fight! Barristan Selmy showed his dominance in that final round. Well Selmy has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
