Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joseph Cony! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nick Douglas! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Valeri Chadov and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Douglas dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Cony. That did some damage! Cony fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Douglas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Douglas wants it to stay on the feet. Joseph Cony seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cony shoots in but Douglas avoids the takedown attempt easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joseph Cony. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cony swats away the attempt to clinch by Douglas. Douglas connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Douglas scores with a head kick.
Douglas misses with a looping right.
That's one minute gone in the round. A head kick misses from Douglas. Douglas gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Cony drops back, looking for a kneebar! Douglas looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Douglas looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Douglas! Douglas is looking to take a break and control but Cony is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Douglas is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Cony's shoulder. That is not cool. Cony tries to buck Douglas off but Douglas is having none of it. Douglas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cony keeps working. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cony is looking to regain half guard here but Douglas keeps moving and retains side control. Douglas is looking to take a break and control but Cony is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cony is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Douglas's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cony looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Cony looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cony is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Douglas pulls his head out easily. Cony is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Douglas is tapping! Great win for Cony!
