Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julian Reis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dois Pra Um! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pra Um throws an off balance right hand
and Reis counters with a three punch combo that has Pra Um backing up. Pra Um nods at Reis to acknowledge the strikes. The fighters circling - Pra Um throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Pra Um uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Reis walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Nice uppercut there from Reis. Pra Um shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Reis as he jumps to the side. Pra Um connects with a right hand. Reis shakes it off. Pra Um lands with a good body shot. Reis lands a jab to the head.
Pra Um throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Reis changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Pra Um - that will leave a mark!
Reis defending well as Pra Um loads up on a big left hand. Pra Um misses with a shot to the body and Reis counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pra Um's guard now. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Reis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reis is pushing down on Pra Um's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pra Um is fighting to maintain full guard but Reis has managed to sneak the leg through. Pra Um punching from the bottom.
Reis works his foot free and advances to mount. Pra Um is wriggling around trying to escape.
Reis lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Reis throwing strikes here but Pra Um is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Reis in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Reis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pra Um looks a forlorn figure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Reis misses with a head shot. Pra Um tries to get back to half guard but can't. Reis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Reis lands a big elbow. Reis throws some wild stikes that Pra Um manages to avoid easily.
Pra Um is bucking up trying to escape but Reis cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Pra Um swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Reis raining down hammerfists from mount. Reis lands a big shot to the head and Pra Um winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Julian Reis! Julian Reis made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'Stockton 209! Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitus, WHAT! '.
