The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gale attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Gale misses the jab. Gale ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away. Gracie slips a jab and a cross from Gale.
Gracie keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Gale. Gracie with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gale to score with a decent uppercut. Gale checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Gracie gets the takedown into side control. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Gale really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gale is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Gracie is trying to get an arm triangle but Gale is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gracie is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Gale is trying to escape and Gracie transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Gale is forced to tap! Nice work there by Gracie! Very nice indeed!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Roger Gracie!
