PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Boston Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronnie Ronbo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Boston Dean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Ronnie Ronbo!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ronbo throws a head kick that misses.
Dean fails to land the takedown.
Dean blocks a head kick by Ronbo.
Ronbo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Dean moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Dean shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ronbo defends it nicely.
Ronbo displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Ronbo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Dean manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Dean will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boston Dean. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dean tries a low kick but Ronbo avoids it.
Ronbo is looking to clinch but Dean is avoiding it.
Ronbo throws a right and a left that Dean avoids nicely.

Dean shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Dean was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Dean can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ronbo is looking to escape.
Dean will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ronbo is trying desperately to improve position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ronbo is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dean tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dean looking to control but Ronbo is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Dean tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Dean stands up from mount. Strange move.
Ronbo throws a lazy uppercut
and Ronbo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dean darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Dean postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Ronbo to stand up.
Dean shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ronbo sprawls well. Ronbo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dean gets slowly back to his feet.
Dean fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ronbo loads up on a big right hand but Dean slips the punch.

Dean feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dean stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Ronbo has managed to clinch.
Dean can't get the takedown.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ronbo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ronbo throws a leg kick which misses Dean's front leg but catches the back leg as Dean tries to avoid it.
Dean misses with a takedown

and Ronbo holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Ronbo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dean has him pressed against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Ronbo's face as he tries to break the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ronbo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dean will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ronbo lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Boston Dean will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ronbo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dean.
Dean will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ronbo is pawing at Dean, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Dean's nose. Dean is badly hurt! Ronbo pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Dean tries desperately to hold on but Ronbo is relentless in his assault! As Dean receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Ronbo away and this one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ronnie Ronbo!
