PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ichabod Crane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and YB Sol Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crane comes to the cage accompanied by ROCK THE NIGHT. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ichabod Crane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, YB Sol Jr!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sol Jr scores with a hook to the body. Crane takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Crane shoots in but no luck this time.
Crane shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Sol Jr shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Crane manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Sol Jr in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sol Jr wants to pass the guard but Crane is keeping the position.
Crane controls Sol Jr momentarily but Sol Jr frees himself.
Crane looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sol Jr is one step ahead there.
Crane is looking to sweep but instead, Sol Jr has passed into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Crane desperately trying to maintain half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sol Jr is taking a breather. Crane says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Sol Jr trying to control the action but Crane is working from the bottom.
Sol Jr frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Crane can't escape the position.
Sol Jr is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Sol Jr looking to control but Crane is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Sol Jr throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Crane because Sol Jr loaded up on that one.

Crane regains half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sol Jr is controlling the pace.
Crane regains full guard. Nicely done.
Crane looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sol Jr is one step ahead there.
Sol Jr must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Crane has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Crane wants to sweep here but Sol Jr controlling him for the moment.
Crane pulls Sol Jr in to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by YB Sol Jr.
Crane circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sol Jr throws a head kick that misses.
Crane looks for a takedown but Sol Jr sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ichabod Crane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Crane closes the distance and clinches up with Sol Jr, looking for a takedown. Crane pushes Sol Jr against the cage but Sol Jr circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Crane swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Sol Jr shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Crane's guard.
Crane looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Crane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Crane wants to get back to his feet but Sol Jr is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sol Jr throws a big right hand that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

YB Sol Jr dominated that round.

Sol Jr throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sol Jr tries a head kick but it misses.
Crane swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Crane throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Crane throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sol Jr walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Sol Jr doesn't manage to clinch there - Crane circles away.
YB Sol Jr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Crane fails with the takedown.

Crane shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Crane was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Crane cracks Sol Jr with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Sol Jr is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Crane has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Sol Jr's face.

Sol Jr is wriggling around trying to escape.
Crane dominating with strikes here.
Crane fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Crane trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Crane landing punches.
Crane tries to control but Sol Jr wriggling away.
Crane is really struggling to control Sol Jr but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Crane is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Sol Jr can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Crane can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sol Jr is looking to escape.

Crane looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sol Jr with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Well, if Crane is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Crane lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ichabod Crane dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Sol Jr tries to clinch but Crane is having none of it.

Sol Jr fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Crane, pushing him back against the cage.
Crane throws a punch but it's blocked by Sol Jr.

Crane can't find room to land a body shot as Sol Jr controls the action.
Crane tries to throw a body punch but Sol Jr avoids it by throwing Crane back against the cage.

Sol Jr breaks the clinch.
Sol Jr walks into a stiff left hand from Crane.
Crane digs a good hook to Sol Jr's body.
Sol Jr looks to land a combination. Crane sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Ichabod Crane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Crane throws a body punch but Sol Jr moves out of range.
Crane thows a body shot but no joy.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Crane.
Sol Jr tries to bum rush Crane with a series of wild strikes but Crane uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Crane lands a glancing blow to the side of Sol Jr's head.
Sol Jr misses with a wild body shot.

Sol Jr closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Crane did well to prevent Sol Jr getting side control.

Crane has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Sol Jr postures up in Crane's guard and throws a big left but Crane blocks it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A swing and a miss from Crane.
Crane looks to score with a jab to the body but Sol Jr is just out of range.
Sol Jr jabs Crane right on the nose. Crane blinks but takes it well.
Crane getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

A big left from Crane misses.

Crane feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sol Jr had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Crane defends it easily.

Sol Jr is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sol Jr has momentary wrist control but Crane slips an elbow through the middle.
Crane connects with a couple of short punches.
Crane sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sol Jr's guard.

Sol Jr is looking to control Crane's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sol Jr avoid being mounted?

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Crane seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
