PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cassius Boran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Kamara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cassius Boran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Kamara!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boran throws a quick inside leg kick.
Boran lands with a good body shot.

Kamara closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Kamara is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Boran is just riding it out for now. Kamara eventually gives up the hold.

Kamara is looking for a kimura but Boran is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kamara to get the leverage.

Kamara is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Boran sees it coming and defends easily.

Kamara looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Boran is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kamara pulls his head out easily.

Boran looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Kamara is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Boran wants to improve his position but Kamara is controlling well.

Boran looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Boran is trying to control but can't.
Boran is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Boran tries to roll over but Kamara keeps him under control.
Boran slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Kamara advances position into side control!

Boran manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Kamara is trying desperately to improve position.
Boran can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kamara is looking to escape.
Kamara is working to get back to half guard.
Boran controlling the position easily from mount.

Boran has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kamara's face.
Boran throws some wild stikes that Kamara manages to avoid easily.
Kamara working to try and regain half guard.
Boran tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Boran prevents Kamara from getting the reversal.
Boran sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Boran sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Boran throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Kamara keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Boran is working for a guillotine from mount but Kamara frees his head quite easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boran trying to control but Kamara is having none of it.

Boran is landing with some decent strikes but Kamara is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kamara is trying to escape the mount.
Boran looking to control but Kamara is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Kamara working to try and regain half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kamara has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Boran has the hooks in. Kamara is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Will Boran go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cassius Boran dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Boran throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Boran feints and as Kamara raises his hands in defense, Boran changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Boran stands and throws Kamara's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Kamara prevents Boran from improving position.
Boran wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kamara keeps working.
Kamara tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boran working the head with strikes.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Kamara sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Kamara is staying active underneath Boran, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Boran is trying to control the action in half guard but Kamara is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Boran is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kamara is just riding it out for now. Boran eventually gives up the hold.
Boran moves into full mount! Kamara won't be happy about that!
Kamara is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Boran is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kamara to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kamara shrugs it off.
Boran sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Boran tries to control but Kamara wriggling away.
Kamara is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Boran has taken his back.
Boran misses with punches from the back.
Kamara breaks Boran's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Boran has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Kamara doesn't defend quickly enough and Boran has managed to lock this one up! Can Kamara escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Boran on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Cassius Boran!
An out of breath Cassius Boran thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
