Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Booker Kennedy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick Cua! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Russell Pearce and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cua thows a body shot but no joy. Cua ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kennedy moves away. Cua misses with a straight right. Kennedy tries to clinch but Cua moves out of range. Kennedy lands a front kick. Kennedy is looking to clinch but Cua is avoiding it.
Kennedy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Kennedy tries for a takedown but Cua sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Cua throws a lazy uppercut
and Kennedy holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Kennedy jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cua walks away with a smile on his face. Kennedy gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Cua takes a swing at Kennedy's ribcage but misses. Kennedy looks to score with a jab to the body but Cua is just out of range. Cua throws the left hand but Kennedy avoids the punch easily. Kennedy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cua defends it nicely. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Booker Kennedy. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cua fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kennedy manages to avoid it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cua tries to land a front kick but Kennedy steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Kennedy throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Cua closes the distance and clinches. Cua gets through Kennedy's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Cua gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kennedy.
Kennedy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Kennedy misses with an elbow over the top. Cua tries to work over Kennedy's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Cua. Cua lands with a short head shot on the inside. Cua digs a right hand into Kennedy's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Kennedy's gas tank. Kennedy jumps guard and drags Cua to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cua trying to control but Kennedy is working from the bottom. Cua trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kennedy's guard. Cua must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kennedy throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Cua fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Kennedy is out of range. Cua leaves Kennedy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Kennedy tries to clinch up and Cua makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Kennedy is breathing heavily. Cua forces Kennedy back against the cage and clinches. Kennedy is looking to take this one to the mat. Cua pushes Kennedy back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cua lands with a short shot to the head. Cua lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Kennedy letting Cua take a breather here. Cua lands a left hand that snaps the head of Kennedy backwards. Kennedy is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Cua screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:09 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rick Cua! A pretty intense looking Rick Cua took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
