Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Landry! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hunter Helmsly! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Josh West and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Landry keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Helmsly swats away the attempt to clinch by Landry. Helmsly misses with a double jab.
Landry tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Helmsly paws at him with a jab and circles away. Helmsly tries to land a front kick but Landry steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Landry throws a right and a left that Helmsly avoids nicely. Helmsly tries to clinch up. Helmsly closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Landry did well to prevent Helmsly getting side control. Helmsly is trying to control. Landry wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Landry is trying is best to control the position here. Helmsly wants to stand up but Landry has a hold of him and won't allow it. Landry avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Helmsly. Helmsly content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Helmsly is just content to waste time from the top position. Landry takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Helmsly stands up from guard. Let's bang! Helmsly shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Landry pinned against the cage. Landry gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Helmsly shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Landry as he avoids it easily. Landry looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Helmsly shoots and misses and Landry counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Jake Landry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hunter Helmsly.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Landry keeps the fight on the outside. Landry throws a hook but Helmsly blocks it. Helmsly dives in and grabs Landry's left leg, looking for a takedown. Landry pushes down on Helmsly's head and hops out. Helmsly looks winded! Landry rushes Helmsly and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Helmsly jumps into guard, dragging Landry to the mat.
Helmsly is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Landry chips away with some ground and pound. Helmsly keeping full guard, as Landry tries to pass. Landry postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Landry slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Helmsly escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Landry gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Landry throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Landry's corner is telling him to maintain position. Landry trying to control the position from guard on top but Helmsly is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Landry looking to sit in guard and control but Helmsly gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Landry looking to control.
Helmsly with a flurry of punches that miss. Helmsly slips nicely into half guard. Helmsly trying to pass the guard but Landry defending well. Helmsly thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Helmsly is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hunter Helmsly dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Helmsly moves in looking to clinch but Landry pushes him off. Landry tries to bum rush Helmsly with a series of wild strikes but Helmsly uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Helmsly misses with a double jab.
Helmsly closes the distance and clinches. Helmsly drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Landry gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Helmsly breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jake Landry is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Landry throws a sloppy head kick and Helmsly moves out of range easily. Helmsly tries for a takedown but Landry circles away easily and Landry counters with a nice double leg into side control. Helmsly won't be happy with that. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Helmsly is trying to control Landry's posture but Landry avoids it. Landry tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Helmsly tries to get back to half guard but can't. Check out the look on Landry's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Helmsly is looking for a sweep. Helmsly holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. Landry prevents Helmsly from escaping the position. Landry stands up and beckons Helmsly to his feet. Helmsly has closed the distance and engaged Landry in a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Helmsly jumps guard.
Helmsly is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Landry is aware though and is defending well. Landry has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Landry postures up and lands a big shot to Helmsly's brow. Landry tries to free his leg and advance position but Helmsly is retaining full guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Helmsly tries to land a sweep but no joy. Helmsly wants to get back to his feet but Landry is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Landry working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Helmsly's head. Landry is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Helmsly wants to sweep here but Landry controlling him for the moment. Hunter Helmsly has got the better of the ground game so far. Helmsly keeping moving, preventing Landry from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Landry is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Landry trying to control the position from guard on top but Helmsly is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Helmsly is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jake Landry. Landry leaves Helmsly with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Jake Landry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hunter Helmsly. Landry misses with a jab, cross combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Helmsly shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Landry defends it nicely. Helmsly shoots in for a double leg but Landry sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Helmsly is looking to clinch but Landry is avoiding it.
Landry wants to land a leg kick but Helmsly is out of range. Helmsly doesn't succeed with the takedown and Landry counters with an outside leg kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Helmsly checks a low kick from Landry. Landry wants to clinch. Landry misses with a jab, cross combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jake Landry dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Landry stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Helmsly closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Landry's guard. Helmsly working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Landry looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Helmsly controls from within his opponent's guard. Helmsly wants to pass the guard but Landry is keeping the position. Helmsly wants to control from the top but Landry keeps moving. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Hunter Helmsly. A big right from Landry misses. Helmsly closes the distance and clinches. A battle for position here, against the cage. Helmsly breaks the clinch.
Landry changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Helmsly tries to avoid it but Landry manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Helmsly to the ground. Helmsly escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Helmsly pushes Landry up against the cage in a clinch. Landry wants a takedown but no success here.
Helmsly gets underhooks to prevent Landry's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Landry. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Helmsly controlling the position easily from mount. Helmsly looking for a guillotine from mount but Landry is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight! Hunter Helmsly comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Helmsly has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
