Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Adam Brooks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gargantuan King! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Columbo Gatti and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! King wants to clinch. Adam Brooks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Brooks takes a swing at King's ribcage but misses. King slips under a jab. King throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Brooks moves out of range as King throws a body kick.
Some bone on bone action there as King checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Brooks avoids the head kick by King.
Brooks with a nice cross. King closes this distance looking for a takedown but Brooks circles away. King shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. King stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Brooks. Brooks lands a really nice looking cross but King seems unphased.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. King closes the distance and clinches up with Brooks, looking for a takedown. King pushes Brooks against the cage but Brooks circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Adam Brooks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gargantuan King. Brooks slaps away a takedown attempt from King, before circling back to the center of the mat. King avoids a low kick by using good footwork. King misses with a right hand and Brooks counters with a low kick, right behind King 's knee. King should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Brooks misses with a kick to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. King will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
King takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. King looks winded! King decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. King wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brooks keeps working. Brooks is trying to stand up here but King is controlling him well. King looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Gargantuan King hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. King takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Brooks goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
It looks like Gargantuan King has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brooks throws a right and a left that both miss. King scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. King controls the position. King working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Brooks seems a little lost for a moment, as King dominates the positioning. King tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no King has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! King sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Brooks is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. King has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. An inside leg kick lands from Brooks. Brooks throws a lazy right hand but King sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Brooks stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Brooks wants it to stay on the feet. King pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Brooks connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed King momentarily.
Brooks throws a nice outside leg kick.
That's five minutes gone in the round. King closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - King lands in his opponent's guard. King won't allow Brooks to get back to his feet. King trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Brooks manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! King looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brooks is one step ahead there. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if King can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Brooks is looking to stand up but King won't let him. King has Brooks pulled in close to control his posture. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Gargantuan King has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Brooks throws a series of punches but King moves out of range. A decent looking cross lands there for Brooks. Brooks fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but King is out of range.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. King feints and as Brooks raises his hands in defense, King changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. King gets to his feet - Brooks follows without any prompting. Brooks throws a leg kick but King moved away. King tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. King tries to move into range but Brooks moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. King walks into a straight right hand from Brooks. Brooks moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Brooks feints a jab promting King to slip. Brooks then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. King slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. King on the wrong end of a nice hook. King blocks a head kick by Brooks.
Adam Brooks is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Brooks tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and King is able to avoid easily. King fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brooks to the ground. King is now in Brooks's guard. King controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's eight minutes gone in the round.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gargantuan King wasn't active enough on the ground. Brooks lands a jab. A leg kick checked by King. Donk. Brooks catches King right on the button with a cross. Brooks scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Brooks lands a jab.
King is rocked! Good leg kick by Brooks there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
King is still on wobbly legs! Can Brooks finish him? Brooks misses with a wild combination.
Brooks fails to land with a series of punches.
King seems to have recovered his senses. A telegraphed takedown attempt from King is defended easily by Brooks. Brooks looks to throw the jab but King is out of range.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. King takes one to the side of the head.
Brooks looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Brooks connects with a single shot there. Brooks drops King with a straight right hand, right on the button! Brooks follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 9:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Adam Brooks! Adam Brooks spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
