PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Corbett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corbett comes to the cage accompanied by Men at Work - Down Under. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nathan Corbett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Martin!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Martin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Corbett parries the strikes from Martin easily there. Martin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Corbett to escape.
Corbett tries to improve position but can't.
Martin tries to score with some ground and pound. Corbett controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Corbett managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Martin.

Martin decides to stand back up.
Corbett tries to clinch but Martin moves out of range.
Good exchange - Corbett coming out on top.
Corbett misses with a low kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Corbett lands a head kick. Martin smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Frank Martin has been cut.
Martin tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Corbett is able to avoid easily.
Good shot there by Martin.


It looks like Nathan Corbett has been cut.
Martin clobbers Corbett with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Corbett pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Martin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Corbett tries to avoid it but Martin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Corbett to the ground. Corbett escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Martin tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Martin misses with a looping left.
A swing and a miss from Corbett.
Corbett scores with a sloppy right hand. Martin should have avoided that one.
Martin defending well as Corbett loads up on a big left hand.
Nathan Corbett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martin changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Martin keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Nathan Corbett is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Corbett, right into the meat.

Corbett comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Corbett is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Martin is defending well for now.

Corbett is trying to maintain a safe position but Martin gets an underhook and turns Corbett into the cage.

Corbett lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Martin.

A frustrated look appears on Martin's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Martin has a couple of punches blocked by Corbett.

Corbett lands a hook to the side of the head.

Martin lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Corbett backwards.

Martin can't find room to land a body shot as Corbett controls the action.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Martin as Corbett tries to tie him up.
Martin wants to get back to striking at distance but Corbett won't allow it.
Corbett lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Martin blocks an elbow strike from Corbett.
Martin's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Corbett lands a nice elbow.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Corbett is looking to control Martin's arms but Martin gets an underhook and turns him. Now Corbett has his back to the cage.
Martin misses with the head strike.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.

Corbett is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Martin throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Corbett sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Martin lands with a thumping leg kick.

Corbett misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Martin managing to block the knees to the body from Corbett.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Martin lands with a short head shot on the inside.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Corbett lands an uppercut.

Corbett landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Martin tries to throw a body punch but Corbett avoids it by throwing Martin back against the cage.

Martin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Corbett moves away from the strike by Martin.
Martin scores with the left hand. Corbett knows he should have avoided that one.
Corbett bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Martin's head backwards.
Corbett wants to clinch up but Martin keeps it at a distance.
Martin lands with a nice body punch.
Corbett cracks Martin with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Corbett.
Martin thuds his right hand into Corbett's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Corbett throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Martin scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Martin is nestled in close to Corbett, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Martin looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Martin wants to pass the guard but Corbett is defending well.
Corbett makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Corbett.
Martin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Corbett has his foot on Martin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Martin works his way back into a safe position though.

Corbett wants to sweep here but Martin controlling him for the moment.

Corbett has an active guard here but Martin has managed to pass into half guard.

Martin lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Corbett is trying to control but can't.
Corbett tries to roll over but Martin keeps him under control.
Martin landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Martin in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Corbett tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Martin!
