Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Evan Rickels! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Travis Ring! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ring shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rickels as he jumps to the side. Ring tries to clinch but Rickels moves away and Rickels counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Rickels tries a knee to the head but Ring blocks it.
Rickels using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Ring has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
A nice left hand lands by Rickels.
Rickels has picked Ring up - he's going for a ride! Rickels dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Rickels with the ground and pound but Ring uses the opportunity to regain guard. Rickels throws a strike but Ring rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Rickels is wriggling around but Ring manages to pass to half guard.
Rickels is staying active underneath Ring, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rickels trying to get back to full guard but Ring takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Ring can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rickels is looking to escape. Rickels tries to buck Ring off but Ring takes his back! Rickels looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. Ring is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Rickels taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Ring.
