Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aaron Knight! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Philips! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Bruno Hogan and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Philips tries to land a leg kick but Knight saw it coming and moves away.
Knight throws a right and a left that Philips avoids nicely. Knight fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Philips is looking to clinch. Philips gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Knight tries to break free but Philips pushes him back against the cage. Philips breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. A bone on bone clash there as Knight blocks the leg kick.
Knight takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Philips, right into the meat.
Knight tries to clinch up but Philips circles away and keeps his distance. Philips tries to close the distance and clinch up but Knight swats him away and circles back towards the center. Knight takes a shot right to the bread basket. This has been an exciting period of action! Knight closes this distance looking for a takedown but Philips circles away. Knight throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Knight shoots for a double leg takedown but Philips sprawls well. He's pushed Knight's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aaron Knight. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Knight tries for a takedown but Philips sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Knight tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Philips paws at him with a jab and circles away. Knight takes a kick to the side of the head. Philips avoids a punch combination nicely.

Knight will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Knight is working for takedown but Philips is calmly controlling the position for now. Knees in the clinch landing for Philips.
Knight is breathing heavily. Philips works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Philips lands a left hand that snaps the head of Knight backwards. Philips escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Philips tries to clinch up but Knight circles away and keeps his distance. Philips misses with a two punch combination.
Philips dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Knight. That did some damage! Aaron Knight seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Knight shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Philips sprawls well. Philips wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Knight gets slowly back to his feet. Knight misses with a wild body shot. Knight throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Philips counters with a thumping low kick. Knight decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Knight looking for a submission but Philips manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Philips pushes Knight off and gets back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Philips smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Philips blocks a head kick by Knight.
Philips closes the distance and pushes Knight back into the cage. Philips's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Philips fails in his attempt to clinch. Knight misses with an uppercut
and Philips counters with a body kick that stops Knight in his tracks momentarily. Philips tries to clinch up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Philips tries to close the distance and clinch but Knight swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Philips turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Philips circles away from the clinch attempt.

Paul Philips seems to be getting the better of the standup. The fight stays on the outside here - Philips looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Philips tries to clinch but Knight is having none of it. Knight tries to move into range but Philips moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Knight misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Knight looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Philips! Knight goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Philips is on top in guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Knight manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Philips manages to get himself to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Knight drops back, looking for a kneebar! Philips looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Philips looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Philips! Knight manages to work his way to half guard, despite Philips's best efforts. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Knight is trying to get back to full guard. Knight looking for submissions off his back. Philips wants to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Knight wants to get back to full guard but Philips has mounted him! Philips stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Philips misses with a two punch combination.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Knight tries to pull guard but Philips holds him up against the cage and eventually Knight drops back down to his feet.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Philips creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Knight is trying to break free. Philips breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Knight tries to clinch but Philips is having none of it. Knight shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Knight is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Philips doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Knight. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
