PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Lajic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato Laranja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lajic comes to the cage accompanied by snoop doggy dogg - who am I. Renato Laranja told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Lajic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renato Laranja!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lajic rushes Laranja and presses him up against the cage.
Lajic lands a nice elbow.
Laranja is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lajic pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Laranja is pressed up against the cage. Lajic has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Laranja down to the mat. Laranja avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Laranja looks for a takedown but Lajic sprawls well.
Laranja closes the distance and clinches up with Lajic, looking for a takedown. Laranja pushes Lajic against the cage but Lajic circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
David Lajic has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renato Laranja.
Laranja shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lajic sprawls well. Lajic wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Laranja gets slowly back to his feet.
Laranja fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Lajic has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Laranja wants to clinch.
Laranja fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lajic avoids it really well and circles away.
Renato Laranja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Laranja throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lajic's waist but Lajic gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Laranja off to one side.

Lajic gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Laranja to score an easy takedown into full guard.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Laranja wants to free his trapped foot but Lajic is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Laranja is trying to work for a kimura but Lajic is defending well.
Lajic has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Laranja is working away from the top position though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Laranja swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Lajic is now in Laranja's guard. A big mistake from Laranja there, giving up the dominant position!
Laranja is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lajic wants to get up but he can't break Laranja's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Laranja is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Lajic is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Lajic has escaped and now he's on top!
