Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Viktor Kyshenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Stefan Danski! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Fedor Mirinova and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Danski throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kyshenko tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Danski is in Kyshenko's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kyshenko looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Danski scoring with punches to the head and body. Danski is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Let's hope that Danski has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Danski working some strikes from top position. Danski tries to free his leg and advance position but Kyshenko is retaining full guard. Danski forces his way into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Danski is keen to just control but Kyshenko is a slippery customer. Kyshenko pushes Danski off looking to stand but Danski dives back in and keeps control.
Danski is trying to control. Kyshenko wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Nice strikes from Danski there. Danski has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Danski trying to mount his opponent but Kyshenko defends it. Danski with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Danski not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Danski is taking a breather. Kyshenko says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Danski landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice strikes from Danski there. Danski slips a nice elbow through Kyshenko's hands, connecting with Kyshenko's forehead. Danski controlling the pace. Danski decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Danski shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kyshenko as he jumps to the side. Nice sprawl there from Kyshenko as Danski shoots in. Danski clinches up against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Danski pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Kyshenko stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kyshenko wants it to stay on the feet. Viktor Kyshenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stefan Danski. Kyshenko forces Danski back against the cage and clinches. Danski breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Danski shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kyshenko pinned against the cage. Kyshenko gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Danski fails with a takedown attempt. Kyshenko throws a right and a left that Danski avoids nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Danski gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Danski has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kyshenko avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Danski is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Kyshenko prevents the takedown attempt.
Danski manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Danski has control of Kyshenko's left arm, preventing Kyshenko from doing any damage. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Danski wants to sweep but no luck. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Stefan Danski dominated that round. The cut man is working on Viktor Kyshenko's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
The fight stays on the outside here - Danski looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Danski takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Kyshenko enables Danski to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kyshenko manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Danski stands up and waves to Kyshenko to follow him. Danski manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kyshenko on his heels. He'll look to pass Kyshenko's guard now, I'm sure. Danski showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Danski wants to pass the guard but Kyshenko is keeping the position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kyshenko working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Danski. Danski keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kyshenko's head. Danski wants to pass the guard but Kyshenko is keeping the position. Danski content to stall in guard here. Danski trying to control the position from guard on top but Kyshenko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Danski looking to pass the guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Danski's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Kyshenko utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Danski controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Danski postures up in Kyshenko's guard and throws a big left but Kyshenko blocks it. Danski chips away with some ground and pound. Danski pushes down on Kyshenko's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ground and pound from Danski. Danski lands with a punch from half guard. Danski is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kyshenko taking some punishment here, with Danski in his half guard. Danski is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Kyshenko is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
