Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Funk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Haku Kokina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Frank Funk has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Funk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Haku Kokina!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jonathan Paton and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kokina misses with a head kick.
Kokina is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Funk.
Kokina displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Funk.
Kokina throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Funk closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kokina's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Funk throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Funk missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kokina scrambles and gets back to his feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kokina. Funk does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kokina throws a nice looking combination but Funk bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Funk shoots in for a takedown but Kokina shows good takedown defense.
Funk fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Funk. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Good standup being displayed there by Kokina as he connects with a hook.
Funk takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Kokina lands a slapping body shot.
Kokina connects with a body shot.
Funk is breathing heavily.

Funk shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kokina is trying to defend but Funk finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Kokina tries to kick Funk off but Funk keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Funk slips a nice elbow through Kokina's hands, connecting with Kokina's forehead.
Funk lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Funk is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kokina pushes Funk off looking to stand but Funk dives back in and keeps control.

Funk looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kokina with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Funk is trying to work for a kimura but Kokina is defending well.
Kokina is trying to stand back up but Funk is controlling him
Funk working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Funk missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Funk looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kokina is trying to stand up here but Funk is controlling him well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Funk winds up and cracks Kokina with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Funk sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Funk has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Funk takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Funk missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kokina is trying to stand back up but Funk is controlling him

Funk is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kokina is just riding it out for now. Funk eventually gives up the hold.
Funk wants to take a breather but Kokina is having none of it.
Kokina really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Funk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Funk is working for a submission of some sort.
Funk throws a strike but Kokina avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Funk with a flurry of punches that miss.
Funk postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Funk in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Funk is in close to Kokina's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Funk lands a couple of digs.
Funk trying to control the position from guard on top but Kokina is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Funk has gone for a leg lock! Kokina slips out almost immediately though and dives into Funk's guard.
Kokina trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kokina trying to control but Funk is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Funk dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Funk wants to clinch.
Kokina thuds a left hand into Funk's body.
Funk shoots in for a takedown but Kokina shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kokina misses with a two punch combination.
Funk shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kokina pinned against the cage. Kokina gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kokina lands a head kick!

Funk feints and as Kokina raises his hands in defense, Funk changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Funk controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Funk is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Kokina wants to stand and escape but Funk is having none of it.
Funk trying to control but Kokina is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Funk is working Kokina over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Funk slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Funk scoring with punches to the head and body.
Funk chips away with some ground and pound.
Funk won't allow Kokina to get back to his feet.
Kokina is breathing heavily.
Funk is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Funk's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Funk lands a couple of digs.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Funk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kokina swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Funk distracts Kokina with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Funk is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Funk stops Kokina from standing up.

Funk stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Funk shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Funk looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Funk lands with a punch from half guard.
Funk scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Nice strikes from Funk there.
Funk landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Funk is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Funk lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.


Kokina is rocked!

Funk seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Kokina is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Frank Funk!
A less than humble Frank Funk misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
