PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Pietkriek Gumbi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yancy Malaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pietkriek Gumbi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yancy Malaki!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Malaki scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Malaki misses with a head shot. Gumbi uses the momentum to regain guard.
Malaki not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Gumbi avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Malaki is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Gumbi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Yancy Malaki wasn't active enough on the ground.
Malaki takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Gumbi misses with a few strikes there.
Gumbi loads up on a big right hand but Malaki slips the punch.
Gumbi connects with a body shot.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Malaki accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Yancy Malaki was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Malaki avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Malaki connects with a nice looking jab.

Gumbi looks to score with a jab to the body but Malaki is just out of range.
Malaki is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Malaki lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Pietkriek Gumbi has been cut.
Gumbi thuds his shin into the meat of Malaki's side.
Gumbi misses with a looping right.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The strikes coming from Malaki are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
An elbow from Malaki crashes against the mat.
Malaki cracks Gumbi with a big right hand but Gumbi just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Malaki has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yancy Malaki dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Gumbi throws a leg kick which misses Malaki's front leg but catches the back leg as Malaki tries to avoid it.

Pietkriek Gumbi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gumbi misses with a double jab.
Gumbi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gumbi misses with a series of wild punches.
Gumbi slips a jab and a cross from Malaki.
Gumbi swings for the body but Malaki moves out of range.
Malaki is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Malaki gets the takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Malaki creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gumbi sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Malaki slows the pace down.

Let's hope that Malaki has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Gumbi takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Malaki works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Yancy Malaki has got the better of the ground game so far.

Malaki fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Check out the look on Malaki's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Malaki prevents Gumbi from escaping the position.
The ground and pound from Malaki seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gumbi takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Malaki is staying tight to Gumbi's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Malaki has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Gumbi!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Malaki fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Yancy Malaki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Malaki is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Malaki is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Yancy Malaki has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Malaki steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Gumbi. That one must have hurt.
Gumbi throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Malaki sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Malaki dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Malaki looks to land a combination. Gumbi sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Malaki gets cracked there but stands up to it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Malaki counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Yancy Malaki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Malaki has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
