Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dan Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Slater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damian Maia!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slater stuffs the takedown attempt from Maia. Maia gets slowly back to his feet.

Maia closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Slater tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Maia wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Maia is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Slater knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Maia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Maia swings around for an armbar but Slater sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Maia's guard.

Maia had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Slater is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Maia Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Slater's back instead.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Maia has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Maia is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Slater has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Slater manages to reverse the position and now he's in Maia's guard. Nice work there by Slater.

Maia isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Slater stacks Maia on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Slater!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Maia tries for a takedown but Slater sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Slater tries to clinch but Maia is having none of it.
Maia shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Slater as he avoids it easily.
Dan Slater has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damian Maia.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Slater.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maia gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Slater thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Maia's head.
Maia wants to improve his position but Slater is controlling well.

Slater wants to take a breather but Maia is having none of it.
Slater is really struggling to control Maia but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Slater gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

and Maia takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Slater.

Maia is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
