PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Joseph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Humberto Umberto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Umberto has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Bryan Joseph could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Humberto Umberto's chin.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bryan Joseph!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Humberto Umberto!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Umberto throws a leg kick

and Joseph counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Umberto looks winded!

Joseph stands up and waves to Umberto to follow him.

Joseph closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Joseph jumps guard but Umberto stands there with Joseph around his waist. Joseph gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A knee to the head by Joseph.
Umberto swings wildly with an uppercut but Joseph uses good head movement to avoid it.
Umberto has a couple of punches blocked by Joseph.
Umberto takes an elbow to the temple.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Joseph drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Umberto gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Joseph digs a right hand underneath Umberto's ribcage. Umberto let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Joseph breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Joseph fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Umberto avoids it really well and circles away.

Joseph jumps guard and drags Umberto to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Joseph throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Umberto.

Umberto throws a low kick but Joseph avoids it.
Joseph throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Umberto throws a leg kick but Joseph sees it coming and moves out of range.

Joseph shoots for a takedown but Umberto saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Joseph lands with an uppercut that bounces Umberto off the cage and back into range.

Joseph wants to clinch up but Umberto keeps it at a distance.

and Joseph holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Umberto goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Umberto thows a huge punch but Joseph dodges it nicely.
Humberto Umberto has got the better of the ground game so far.
Umberto looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Joseph with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Joseph lands an elbow just above Umberto 's eye.
Umberto is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Umberto takes a shot to the head.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Umberto in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bryan Joseph.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Joseph, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Bryan Joseph decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
