PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Trig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sasha Tugarinov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sasha Tugarinov told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Trig!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sasha Tugarinov!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trig bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Trig is looking to take a break and control but Tugarinov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Trig cracks Tugarinov with a big elbow.
Trig creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Tugarinov sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Trig tries to stand but Tugarinov is controlling his head.
Tugarinov tries to buck Trig off but Trig is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Trig tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Tugarinov manages to get back to half guard.

Tugarinov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Trig pulls his head out easily.

Tugarinov looking for submissions off his back.

Tugarinov moves into full guard.
Trig's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Trig wanted to stand there but Tugarinov had control of the position.
Trig stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tugarinov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tugarinov has a closed guard, preventing Trig from standing up.
Trig is looking to work some ground and pound but Tugarinov has wrist control.
Trig is working Tugarinov over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Trig trying to stand up but can't free himself from Tugarinov's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Trig wants to control from the top but Tugarinov keeps moving.

Tugarinov is looking for a triangle but Trig pushes his legs off easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Trig pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tugarinov is keeping the position for now.
Trig content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Trig drops an elbow to the side of Tugarinov's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tugarinov manages to get to full guard.
Trig landing with the ground and pound.

Tugarinov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Trig defends well.
Trig trying to control the position from guard on top but Tugarinov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Trig avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Trig makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Trig distracts Tugarinov with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tugarinov keeping moving, preventing Trig from controlling successfully.
Trig lands a couple of decent looking shots.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Trig accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Trig is working Tugarinov over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Trig trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Tugarinov looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Trig passes into side control.

Trig decides to stand back up. Trig steps back and let's Tugarinov get back to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Trig will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Trig is looking to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Trig will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Trig is looking to clinch.
Tugarinov shoots in for a takedown but Trig shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Trig lands an overhand right.
Frank Trig seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tugarinov shoots and misses

and Trig counters by clinching up.

Trig breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Trig fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tugarinov to the ground. Trig is now in Tugarinov's guard.
Trig tries to stand but Tugarinov is controlling from the bottom.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Trig's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Tugarinov is breathing heavily.
Trig content to stall in guard here.

Trig pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tugarinov is keeping the position for now.
Trig content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Trig wants to control from the top but Tugarinov keeps moving.
Trig scoring with punches to the head and body.
Trig in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Tugarinov looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Trig postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Tugarinov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Trig can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Trig working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Tugarinov's head.

Trig looking to pass the guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tugarinov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Trig doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Trig manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Trig is working Tugarinov over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Trig passes Tugarinov's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Trig is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tugarinov doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Trig.

Trig tries to pass the half guard into mount. Tugarinov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Trig lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Trig is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tugarinov sees it coming and defends easily.

Tugarinov is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Trig is tapping! Great win for Tugarinov!
