PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ultimate Warrior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ultimate Warrior!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Warrior drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Warrior preventing the sweep.
Warrior slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Diaz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Warrior trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Warrior stands and throws Diaz's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Warrior in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Warrior tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Warrior has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Warrior tries for a kimura but Diaz is defending well.
Diaz tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Warrior is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diaz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Diaz is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Diaz takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Diaz tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Warrior controls the position from side control.

Warrior scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Diaz to see if he's OK.
Diaz tries to buck Warrior off but Warrior is having none of it.

Warrior lands a decent elbow from side control.
Warrior wants to control but Diaz is keeping him busy.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Warrior is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Warrior thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Warrior tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Warrior controls the position from side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Warrior is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ultimate Warrior dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Diaz throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Diaz throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Warrior counters with a single leg into guard. Diaz didn't expect that.
Warrior won't allow Diaz to sweep him here.
Warrior is pushing down on Diaz's leg trying to pass to half guard. Diaz is fighting to maintain full guard but Warrior has managed to sneak the leg through.
Diaz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Warrior sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Warrior is looking to advance position but Diaz won't allow it.

Warrior is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Diaz is just riding it out for now. Warrior eventually gives up the hold.

Diaz tries to get to full guard but Warrior has control of the leg.
Warrior seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Diaz is looking to control Warrior's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Diaz avoid being mounted?

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ultimate Warrior.
Diaz scores with a hook to the body. Warrior takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
The fighters circling - Diaz throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Nick Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Diaz swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Diaz fails to land with a series of punches.
Diaz will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Warrior shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Warrior was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Diaz is trying to escape the position but Warrior is controlling the position.
Diaz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Warrior wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ultimate Warrior was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Diaz thows a body shot but no joy.
Diaz feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Warriors jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Diaz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Warrior moves away.
Diaz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Warrior was well out of range. Poor timing from Diaz.
Warrior moves out of range of the strikes.
Diaz swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Diaz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Warrior counters with a shoot takedown. Diaz fights it but they end up in guard.
Ultimate Warrior has got the better of the ground game so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Warrior controls from within his opponent's guard.
Diaz looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Warrior advances position into side control!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Warrior controls the position from side control.
Diaz is working to avoid the ground and pound but Warrior connects with a decent elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ultimate Warrior showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Warrior's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Diaz connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Warrior scrambles back to his feet.

Warrior closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Diaz's guard.
Warrior is stalling in the full guard.
Warrior is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Warrior stays in close to Diaz's body and controls the position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Warrior trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ultimate Warrior hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Diaz misses with a double jab

and Warrior counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Diaz's guard now.
Diaz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Warrior controls the pace.

Diaz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Warrior is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ultimate Warrior wasn't active enough on the ground.
Diaz throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Warrior counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Warrior controlling from the top position.
Warrior trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Warrior passes Diaz's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Warrior works his foot free and advances to mount.
Warrior looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Warrior takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Diaz is in all sorts of trouble here.
Warrior works his way to his opponent's back.

Warrior has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Diaz has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Warrior controlling well, preventing Diaz from escaping the position.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Nick Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ultimate Warrior is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Warrior is looking for the choke from the back position but Diaz is controlling his hands well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ultimate Warrior comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Warrior winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
