PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pete Barry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sharp Shooter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pete Barry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sharp Shooter!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Barry or perhaps it was just good defense by Shooter which made him look bad.
Barry slaps away a takedown attempt from Shooter, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Barry shoots and misses

and Shooter counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Barry!
Shooter should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Shooter controlling the pace for now.
Shooter trying to control but Barry is having none of it.

Shooter takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Barry tries to reverse the position but Shooter maintains control.

Barry srikes from the bottom but he's lost position and has given up his back.

Shooter scores with punches and elbows.
Shooter has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Barry's body.

Shooter keeps control of the position as Barry tries to break free.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shooter looking for the choke from the back.
Shooter has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Barry holding both Shooter 's hands and preventing any damage.

Shooter is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Barry knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Barry for a finish.

Shooter controlling the position well here. Barry rolled but Shooter kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Shooter really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Barry.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Barry trying to get back to his feet but Shooter is in full control for now.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Shooter tries to close the distance and clinch but Barry swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Shooter swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Shooter is looking to clinch but Barry is avoiding it.
Barry gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Shooter counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Barry wants to improve his position but Shooter is controlling well.
Barry keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Shooter wants to pass the guard but Barry is defending well.
Barry trying to hold on to Shooter's head to control him but Shooter postures up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Shooter lands a nice short elbow.

Barry is not content to let Shooter control the position.
Barry looks like he's trying to stand up.
Shooter seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Shooter is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Shooter is trying to work for a kimura but Barry is defending well.
Barry knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shooter on the ground.
Shooter perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Barry wants to control but Shooter is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Barry tries to roll over but Shooter keeps him under control.

Shooter is trying to work for a kimura but Barry is defending well.
Barry is refusing to be controlled, as Shooter sits in half guard.
Barry is trying to maintain the position but Shooter is very close to passing his half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shooter is nestled in close to Barry, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Shooter prevents Barry from standing back up.
Barry is trying to control but Shooter manages to pass to mount!
Barry is wriggling around trying to escape.
Shooter won't let Barry get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Shooter is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Shooter throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Barry was covering up waiting for the punch and Shooter finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Shooter passes Barry's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Shooter slips a nice elbow through Barry's hands, connecting with Barry's forehead.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shooter trying to mount his opponent but Barry defends it.
Barry is trying to stand.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shooter in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shooter is working for a kimura but Barry is defending it quite comfortably.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shooter is working for a submission of some sort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sharp Shooter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Shooter avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Barry closes the distance and clinches.
Shooter wants to take the fight to the mat but Barry manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Barry tries to score a body lock takedown but Shooter shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Barry manages to pull guard.

Shooter drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shooter jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Barry is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Shooter is controlling him.
Shooter looking to sit in guard and control but Barry gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Shooter has his foot on Barry's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Barry works his way back into a safe position though.

Shooter has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Barry doesn't defend quickly enough and Shooter has managed to lock this one up! Can Barry escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Shooter on a fantastic submission victory.
