PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Groyce Racie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ellis Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ellis Stone was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Groyce Racie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ellis Stone!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Racie shoots in for a double leg but Stone sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Racie shoots in but Stone avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stone keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Racie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stone swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Groyce Racie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Stone looks to land a combination. Racie sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Stone shoots in and bounces Racie off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Stone really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Racie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Stone controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Stone is looking to stand up but Racie won't let him.
Stone is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Racie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Racie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stone can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Racie is breathing heavily.

Stone wants to control from the top but Racie keeps moving.
Stone trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Racie has a closed guard, preventing Stone from standing up.
Stone won't allow Racie to sweep him here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Stone rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Racie moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Racie doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Stone holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Racie fails to pull guard.

Stone breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Stone connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Stone punishes Racie's body with a nice straight punch.

and Stone counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Racie takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Racie decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.


Stone is rocked!

Racie is working for a submission of some sort.
Racie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Racie is keen to just control but Stone is a slippery customer.
Racie passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Stone!

Racie has control of Stone's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stone regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Racie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Racie is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Stone can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Racie wants to take his opponent's back but Stone doesn't allow it.

Racie is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Stone has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Stone!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Stone lands a nice leg kick that just misses Racie's sensitive parts.

Racie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stone gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Let's hope that Stone has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Racie wants to sweep but no luck.

Stone stands up and waves to Racie to follow him.

Stone closes the distance and clinches.

Stone is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Racie has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stone is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Racie tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Stone wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Racie has his foot on Stone's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stone works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ellis Stone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Ellis Stone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Stone has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
