The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz shoots in and bounces Mir off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Diaz preventing the sweep. Diaz wants to pass the guard but Mir is keeping the position. Mir has Diaz pulled in close to control his posture. Mir might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Diaz wanted to stand there but Mir had control of the position. Mir manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Diaz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mir. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mir looking to control but Diaz is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. A nice elbow there by Mir.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mir lands a big elbow. Mir looking to control but Diaz is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mir pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Mir is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Diaz is surviving well by controlling Mir's body position as best he can. Mir wants to control the pace but Diaz is squirming around nicely. Diaz in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Mir looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Mir controlling from mount. Hank Mir dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Diaz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mir but Mir pushes him off and we're back to square one. Mir scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Mir has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mir scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Diaz to see if he's OK. Diaz is looking to reverse the position. Mir working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Diaz is trying to control Mir's posture but Mir avoids it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mir landing a few strikes. Mir connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Diaz some visible discomfort.

Diaz is trying to improve his position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Diaz can do anything to dispel that myth. Mir is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Diaz has escaped the position, nice work there. Diaz holding on. Diaz taking a bit of punishment here - Mir scoring with strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Diaz taking punishment in the form of punches.
Mir in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Diaz takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Diaz is rocked! A big shot lands for Mir! That's hurt Diaz! Will he recover? Mir fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
