PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dante Carver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jorge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carver comes to the cage accompanied by Machine Gun - Manu Chao. The crowd seem to be enjoying Jorge's choice of entrance music: Back in black. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Dante Carver! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Jorge! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Daniel Bishop and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carver will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jorge lands with a right hand. Carver wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Carver fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jorge manages to avoid it. Jorge is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Carver.
It looks like James Jorge has been cut. Jorge moves into the clinch successfully.
Jorge gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Nice strikes from Jorge there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Carver is not content to let Jorge control the position. Carver wants to sweep but Jorge has passed to side control! Carver is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jorge lands a nice forearm strike. Jorge sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Carver is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Carver wants to control but Jorge postures up. Carver is looking to regain half guard here but Jorge keeps moving and retains side control. Jorge advances to full mount. Jorge trying to control but Carver is having none of it. Jorge looking to finish Carver with some ground and pound. This is bad for Carver!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carver keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Jorge can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carver is looking to escape. Jorge has control of Carver's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Carver regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Carver is in a horrible position here. Jorge smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jorge cracks Carver with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Jorge tries to control but Carver wriggling away. Carver is working to get back to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jorge working Carver over with strikes. Jorge is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Carver wants to control but Jorge is keeping busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Carver moves into full guard.
Jorge trying to control the position from guard on top but Carver is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jorge postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Carver keeping full guard, as Jorge tries to pass. Carver looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jorge trying to control but Carver is working from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Carver working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Jorge has passed into half guard!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Jorge dominated that round. The cut man is working on James Jorge's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Carver with a body punch. A glancing blow. A combination from Jorge does no damage. Carver throws a big shot that misses. Carver misses with a wild body shot. Carver shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jorge but Jorge pushes him off and we're back to square one. Jorge looking to score a takedown here. Carver is defending well but Jorge drives through and ends up in Carver's guard. Jorge in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Jorge stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carver swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carver is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Carver working for a triangle but Jorge defends it easily.
Carver keeping full guard, as Jorge tries to pass. Jorge trying to control the position from guard on top but Carver is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jorge stopping the sweep attempt from Carver. Jorge stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carver swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jorge wants to control from the top but Carver keeps moving. Carver is trying to control the position from the bottom.
James Jorge has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Jorge takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Jorge throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Carver sees it coming and avoids it easily. Carver slips under a jab from Jorge. Jorge moves into range and clinches up with Carver. Jorge has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Carver uses from the top position. Carver is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Carver chips away with some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carver trying to control but Jorge is working from the bottom. Jorge looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carver is one step ahead there. Jorge keeping moving, preventing Carver from controlling successfully. Carver is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jorge is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Carver loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Carver tries to free his leg and advance position but Jorge is retaining full guard. Jorge is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jorge tries to clinch but Carver is having none of it. Carver uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jorge.
Carver misses with a double jab.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Carver misses with a jab, cross combination.
A lazy left from Jorge finds it's target. Jorge lands with a nice combination. Carver backs away looking to recover. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Jorge showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on James Jorge's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Donk. Jorge catches Carver right on the button with a cross. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Carver, as that shot connected.
Carver takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Jorge scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Jorge is working Carver over with some ground and pound from side control. Jorge controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jorge looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Carver is avoiding damage well.
Jorge is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Carver looks calm but he's in trouble here. Jorge gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Carver is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Jorge lets go of the hold and Carver can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). James Jorge! A relieved looking James Jorge thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
