Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jaime Sonny!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jason Hopinks!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sonny rushes Hopinks and presses him up against the cage.

Hopinks manages to break the clinch.
Sonny closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hopinks circles away.

and Hopinks counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sonny!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sonny might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hopinks is controlling the pace.

Hopinks tries to pass to full mount but Sonny defends it.

Sonny is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hopinks's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hopinks's back!

You can see the frustration on Hopinks's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Hopinks manages to escape to his feet.
Sonny throws a body punch but Hopinks moves out of range.

Hopinks feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hopinks really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sonny. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Hopinks closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sonny's guard.

Hopinks avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Hopinks is looking to pass into half guard but Sonny pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Sonny is in guard.
Hopinks is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sonny avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hopinks.
Hopinks tries to move to mount but Sonny blocks the move with his legs.
Jaime Sonny overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hopinks misses with the ground and pound.
Sonny is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hopinks is controlling him well.

You can see the frustration on Sonny's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Sonny dodges the ground and pound from Hopinks.
Hopinks lands some shots froms side control.
Hopinks misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sonny is looking for a sweep.

Sonny manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Sonny is keen to just control but Hopinks is a slippery customer.

Hopinks has one foot on Sonny's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Sonny tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hopinks swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Hopinks shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Sonny looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hopinks looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sonny with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sonny moves into full guard.
Hopinks not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sonny preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Hopinks throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hopinks slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Sonny wants to get back to his feet but Hopinks is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Poor strikes thrown by Sonny there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
