Picard comes to the cage accompanied by The Picard Song. Mathers is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Cinderella Man. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jean Luc Picard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marshall Mathers!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Picard avoids the body shot from Mathers.
A swing and a miss from Mathers.
A cross from Mathers lands.
Picard tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mathers paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mathers lands a right hook to the body.
Picard misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mathers.
Mathers throws a right and a left that Picard avoids nicely.
Mathers takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Mathers throws a poor cross that misses
and Picard connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Mathers throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Mathers misses with a combination
enabling Picard to counter with a crisp jab.
Mathers pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Picard lands a nice shot to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A looping hook to the body misses from Picard. Mathers does a little dance to reset his feet.
Picard misses with a straight right.
Picard misses with an uppercut.
Picard ducks right into an uppercut from Mathers.
Mathers tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Marshall Mathers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Picard dodges the punch combination from Mathers.
Mathers throws a jab but it's blocked by Picard.
Picard catches Mathers with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Picard scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Mathers tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Picard was well out of range. Poor timing from Mathers.
Picard ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mathers moves away.
Mathers pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Picard shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Picard feints and as Mathers raises his hands in defense, Picard changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Picard wants to control from the top but Mathers keeps moving.
Picard content to stall in guard here.
Mathers keeping moving, preventing Picard from controlling successfully.

Picard engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Jean Luc Picard has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Picard throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Mathers stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mathers connects with a body shot that sends Picard's belly button to the back.

Picard gets a double leg takedown into Mathers's guard.
Picard forces his way into half guard.
Picard passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Picard lands a heavy elbow.
Picard postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mathers looks a forlorn figure.
Mathers has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Mathers defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mathers is keeping busy.

Picard looking to break Mathers's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Mathers remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Picard will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Picard is punishing Mathers with some ground and pound.
A lull in the action here.

Picard has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Mathers! Can he survive? No! He's out! Picard gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
