Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Lakanik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elrod Heimbach!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Eddie Farnsworth and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heimbach shoots in for a double leg but Lakanik sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lakanik lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Lakanik connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Heimbach gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Heimbach looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Lakanik will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Heimbach up against the cage.

Lakanik shoots in but Heimbach avoids the takedown attempt easily.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Heimbach just misses with a elbow thrown towards Lakanik's brow.
Lakanik blocks an elbow strike.
Heimbach putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Lakanik in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Heimbach's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Heimbach wants to hold on but Lakanik pushes him away.

Heimbach holds on for dear life, controlling Lakanik's posture momentarily.

Lakanik will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lakanik perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Heimbach is pressing down on Lakanik's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Lakanik wants to control from the top but Heimbach keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Lakanik wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Heimbach moves in looking to clinch but Lakanik pushes him off.

and Heimbach counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Lakanik is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Heimbach using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Lakanik has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Lakanik has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Heimbach is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Heimbach throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

A close second round but Elrod Heimbach will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Heimbach throws a low kick but it's checked well by Lakanik.
Heimbach tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lakanik paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lakanik blocks the body kick.
Heimbach throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Heimbach misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lakanik scores with a leg kick.
Sloppy strikes from Lakanik. Those never looked like landing.
Lakanik closes this distance looking for a takedown but Heimbach circles away.
Both fighters circling a little - Heimbach finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Lakanik crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Heimbach - the referee stops the clock and Lakanik gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Heimbach. Lakanik manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
John Lakanik has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Heimbach misses with a takedown attempt
and Lakanik counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
A solid leg kick lands there for Lakanik.

Lakanik's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Lakanik is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Heimbach to keep the fight standing.

Heimbach lands a hook to the side of the head.

Heimbach breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Heimbach lands a slapping body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Elrod Heimbach comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Heimbach winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
