Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aleksander Yaroslev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kent Phillips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yaroslev kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is War is the Answer - Five Finger Death Punch. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aleksander Yaroslev! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kent Phillips! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Phillips throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Phillips scores with a jab to the head.
A telegraphed right hand from Yaroslev misses the target. Yaroslev shoots in but Phillips avoids the takedown attempt easily. Phillips keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Phillips misses with a lunging right hand
and Yaroslev counters with a nice double leg into side control. Phillips won't be happy with that. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Yaroslev is staying tight to Phillips's torso, preventing him from escaping. Phillips is looking for a sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Yaroslev lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
It looks like Kent Phillips has been cut. Phillips tries to improve position but can't. Yaroslev in side control, throwing shots but Phillips defends. Phillips throws Yaroslev to one side and escapes! Kent Phillips is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Phillips closes the distance and clinches. Phillips is pressed up against the cage. Yaroslev has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Phillips down to the mat. Phillips avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aleksander Yaroslev. That's going to take a lot out of him. Phillips throws out a loose jab but Yaroslev uses good head movement to avoid it. Yaroslev swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Phillips forces Yaroslev back against the cage and clinches. Yaroslev is looking for a takedown. Yaroslev misses with a punch to the body.
Phillips is fighting off a takedown attempt but Yaroslev is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Phillips to the mat. Phillips regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Yaroslev postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Phillips looking to control.
Phillips preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Yaroslev stopping the sweep attempt from Phillips. Phillips has his hands on Yaroslev's head, controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Phillips is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Yaroslev dives into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Yaroslev misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Phillips takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Phillips manages to get back to half guard. Phillips has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Yaroslev is working away from the top position though. Yaroslev thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Phillips trying to control here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Phillips regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Yaroslev. Phillips controlling Yaroslev's posture. Yaroslev postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Phillips is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Yaroslev, into his guard. Yaroslev looking to hit a scissor sweep but Phillips is one step ahead there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Phillips content to stall in guard here. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kent Phillips. Yaroslev lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Aleksander Yaroslev dominated that round. The cut man is working on Kent Phillips's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
A clash of legs there as Phillips blocks the low kick.
That has opened up Kent Phillips's cut even more. Yaroslev lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Phillips head around and knocks him out cold! Yaroslev hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Aleksander Yaroslev! Aleksander Yaroslev is the new heavyweight champion! During a confident post fight interview, Aleksander Yaroslev thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
