Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Al Coholic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, cm The Great! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The Great throws a leg kick and Coholic counters with a series of strikes. The Great will be more careful next time no doubt. The Great looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Coholic misses with a takedown attempt - The Great sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Oooh a lovely combination from Coholic sends The Great down but not out. Coholic dives into side control looking to finish.
It looks like cm The Great has been cut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Coholic works to advance to full mount. The Great defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Coholic takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Coholic gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Coholic closes the distance and clinches. The Great is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Coholic has dropped down and is working for a takedown. The Great is trying to keep an underhook but Coholic manages to get the takedown into half guard. The Great really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Coholic. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Coholic perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Coholic frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Coholic stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Coholic takes the fight into the clinch. The Great is fighting off a takedown attempt but Coholic is just too persistent for him and manages to trip The Great to the mat. The Great regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Coholic stands up from The Great's guard - Coholic perhaps looking for a knockout. Coholic ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. The Great takes a shot right to the bread basket. Al Coholic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The Great takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Coholic changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The Great looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The Great is trying to improve his position. The Great is trying to control Coholic's posture but Coholic avoids it. Coholic happy to just control the position for now. Coholic seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down The Great for as long as he can get away with. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. The Great on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on The Great's face as Coholic controls the position. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Al Coholic just wasn't active enough. The Great gets caught flat footed, as Coholic shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Coholic sitting in guard here, content to control. Coholic slips nicely into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Coholic takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Coholic's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Coholic passes to full mount! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Coholic controlling the position easily from mount.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Coholic forces the positional change into back control. Coholic has good solid back control here. The Great is trying to stand back up. Coholic has both hooks in and is working for a choke. The Great is in real trouble here. Coholic gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, The Great is tapping out! Coholic wins by rear naked choke!
