Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nate Oswalt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Kerr! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Excellent takedown into side control there by Oswalt. Oswalt is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kerr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Kerr tries to bench press Oswalt off him but Oswalt keeps the position. Oswalt advances nicely into full mount. Oswalt can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kerr is looking to escape. Oswalt looking to ground and pound but Kerr is blocking nicely. Oswalt misses with a head shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oswalt thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Oswalt is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kerr has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Oswalt throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Kerr because Oswalt loaded up on that one. Kerr working to try and regain half guard.
Kerr tries to hold on but Oswalt postures up. Oswalt goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kerr turns into him and now he's in Oswalt's guard.
Oswalt bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kerr's guard.

Kerr has his foot on Oswalt's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Oswalt works his way back into a safe position though. Oswalt lands a couple of elbows. Oswalt controlling from the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Kerr preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kerr wants to sweep here but Oswalt controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Oswalt trying to control but Kerr is working from the bottom. Oswalt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Oswalt postures up in Kerr's guard and throws a big left but Kerr blocks it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kerr looking to hit a scissor sweep but Oswalt is one step ahead there. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kerr can do anything to dispel that myth. Kerr has his feet on Oswalt's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Oswalt throws a right and a left that Kerr avoids nicely. Some wild striking there from Oswalt.
Oswalt is looking to clinch. Oswalt throws a series of punches but Kerr moves out of range. Oswalt throws a nice looking combination but Kerr bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Kerr checks a leg kick. Oswalt is looking to clinch but Kerr is avoiding it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. An inside leg kick lands from Oswalt. Kerr shoots in for a takedown but Oswalt shows good takedown defense. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kerr is defended easily by Oswalt. Oswalt is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Kerr misses with a head kick.
Oswalt closes the distance and clinches. Oswalt breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nice sprawl there from Kerr as Oswalt shoots in. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Oswalt!

It looks like Nate Oswalt has been cut. Oswalt tries to clinch but Kerr is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Oswalt content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. The fighters are battling for position here. Kerr manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Kerr wants to sweep here but Oswalt controlling him for the moment.

Kerr lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

The fight stays on the outside here - Oswalt looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Kerr feints and as Oswalt raises his hands in defense, Kerr changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oswalt wants to control for a moment but Kerr uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Oswalt is pressing down on Kerr's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kerr is holding on for now. Kerr is looking to improve his position.
Oswalt not landing any meaningful shots this time. Oswalt is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kerr doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Oswalt.
