PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that John Davis has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily John Davis seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Souza!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza shoots for a double leg takedown but Davis sprawls well. He's pushed Souza's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Davis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Souza paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Davis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Davis lands a nice looking body kick.

Davis has Souza up against the cage in a clinch.
Souza drops down looking for an ankle pick but Davis pulls his leg out and moves away.
John Davis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Souza.
Souza wants to clinch.
Souza throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Souza misses with an uppercut

and Davis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Davis.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Souza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Davis's guard.
Souza throwing strikes but missing.
Souza stands and throws Davis's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Souza working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Souza is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Souza scores with punches from side control.
Souza misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Souza thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Souza is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Davis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Davis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Souza on the ground.
Souza tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Souza has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Davis!
Souza looking to control and managing it successfully.
Souza tries to control but Davis wriggling away.

Souza has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Davis is forced to tap!
