Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Ortiz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royals Gracie! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ortiz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gracie is fending him off so far but Ortiz persists. Nope, Gracie circles away and we're back to standing. Ortiz misses with a double jab.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ortiz napping and manages to drive through into side control! The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. You can see the frustration on Ortiz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. What's Ortiz going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle. Gracie wants to control but Ortiz is keeping him busy. Gracie controls the position from side control. Ortiz sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Ortiz wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gracie thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Gracie is keen to just control but Ortiz is a slippery customer. Gracie is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Ortiz tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg. Gracie controlling the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ortiz is trying to maintain the position but Gracie is very close to passing his half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Ortiz closes the distance and clinches up with Gracie, looking for a takedown. Ortiz pushes Gracie against the cage but Gracie circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Ortiz is breathing heavily. Ortiz misses with a takedown and Gracie moves into the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Ortiz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gracie has hold of one of Ortiz's legs. Ortiz is fighting the takedown attempt but Gracie gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ortiz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gracie defends it easily. Ortiz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gracie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ortiz is keeping the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie trying to control but Ortiz is working from the bottom. Gracie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Ortiz working for a triangle but Gracie defends it easily.
Gracie controls from within his opponent's guard. Ortiz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gracie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Ortiz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gracie advances to half guard. Gracie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Gracie is trying to work for a kimura but Ortiz is defending well.
Ortiz keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Gracie perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ortiz is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Royals Gracie dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Ortiz shoots in looking for a takedown but Gracie manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ortiz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. The fight moves into the clinch position. Gracie is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ortiz can't fight it off and eventually Gracie manages to take the fight to the floor. Ortiz looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Ortiz working for submissions but it's allowed Gracie to get to half guard.
Gracie missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Gracie trying to control from half guard but Ortiz is working away. Ortiz looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ortiz looking for submissions off his back. Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Ortiz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Ortiz trying to hold on to Gracie's head to control him but Gracie postures up.
Gracie scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Gracie wants to control but Ortiz is keeping him busy. Ortiz gets back to full guard.
Ortiz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gracie defends well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie stands and throws Ortiz's legs to the side, diving into side control. Gracie is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Ortiz is trying to escape and Gracie transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Ortiz is forced to tap! Nice work there by Gracie! Very nice indeed!
