PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Chong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cezar Sztyca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chong comes to the cage accompanied by Hunt You Down. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tommy Chong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cezar Sztyca!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sztyca shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chong as he avoids it easily.
Chong tries for a takedown but Sztyca circles away easily

and Sztyca counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Chong is looking for a sweep. Sztyca is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sztyca wants to stand but Chong has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chong wants to get back to full guard.
Chong is working hard here to advance position.
Sztyca wants to free his trapped foot but Chong is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Sztyca seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Chong does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Chong is looking to control Sztyca's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chong avoid being mounted?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sztyca tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Chong.

Sztyca is just content to waste time from the top position. Chong takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Chong looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Sztyca trying to control the position from guard on top but Chong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sztyca is looking to stand up but Chong won't let him.
Sztyca tries to free his leg and advance position but Chong is retaining full guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Chong holds on and takes a little breather.
Chong not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
No luck for Sztyca with that takedown attempt.

Tommy Chong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cezar Sztyca.

Chong has Sztyca up against the cage in a clinch.

Sztyca has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Chong clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Sztyca is trying to control but Chong is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Chong holds of for dear life.
Sztyca avoids the attempt from Chong to control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sztyca tries to stand up but Chong grabs his leg and drags him down! Chong is now on top, in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cezar Sztyca dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Chong shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sztyca defends it nicely.
Chong is looking to clinch but Sztyca is avoiding it.
Chong throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sztyca's waist but Sztyca gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Chong off to one side.
Tommy Chong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sztyca takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Cezar Sztyca was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Chong has his foot on Sztyca's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sztyca works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Sztyca would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Cezar Sztyca has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Chong is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sztyca sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Horrible takedown by Chong or perhaps it was just good defense by Sztyca which made him look bad.
Chong looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sztyca is fending him off so far but Chong persists. Nope, Sztyca circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sztyca shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Chong napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Sztyca throws an elbow but Chong slips to the side and avoids it well.

Sztyca goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Chong has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sztyca but great work by Chong.
Sztyca is trying to get back to his feet.

Chong is trying to get an arm triangle but Sztyca is defending well.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.

Sztyca stops Chong from passing to mount.
Sztyca is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Chong off and has taken his back!
Sztyca is not going to allow Chong to sit and survive in this position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sztyca scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Chong is looking for a way out.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cezar Sztyca showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Chong looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Sztyca is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Chong stalling away here and it's allowed Sztyca to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Chong drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Chong jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Chong drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sztyca dives on top into guard.
Sztyca really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chong. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sztyca wants to control from the top but Chong keeps moving.
Sztyca is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Chong bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sztyca's guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tommy Chong.
I think Sztyca has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
