PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Tolbowl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Johnson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Longest Day by Iron Maiden. Tolbowl has chosen Do Da Stanky Leg as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Calvin Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Tolbowl!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tolbowl avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Tolbowl takes one to the chin there.
Tolbowl finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Tolbowl moves in looking to clinch but Johnson pushes him off.

Tolbowl fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Johnson sprawls well initially but Tolbowl persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Tolbowl thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Johnson's head.
Tolbowl is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Tolbowl looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Johnson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Tolbowl throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Johnson pulls Tolbowl in to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tolbowl!

Tolbowl is desperately trying to improve his position but Johnson has a good base and remains in mount.

Johnson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Johnson cracks Tolbowl with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Johnson lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Johnson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tolbowl is looking to escape.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Tolbowl is squirming around, avoiding Johnson's attempts to control the action.
Tolbowl keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin Johnson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Johnson connects with a jab.
Tolbowl misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Johnson.
Johnson throws a right hand that Tolbowl ducks under and follows up with a left that Tolbowl also avoids with ease.

Calvin Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tolbowl misses the shot to the body.
Johnson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Tolbowl on the side of the head.
Johnson rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Tolbowl counters with an inside leg kick.
Johnson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Tolbowl dives in and grabs Johnson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes down on Tolbowl's head and hops out.
Tolbowl takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Tolbowl gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Johnson lands a hook to the side of the head.

Tolbowl drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Calvin Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Tolbowl.
Johnson lands a hook that snaps the head of Tolbowl backwards.
Johnson lands with a left to the head.
Johnson has a couple of punches blocked by Tolbowl.
Tolbowl goes for a takedown attempt but Johnson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Johnson lands a big uppercut and Tolbowl crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Tolbowl looks OK. Johnson waves Tolbowl back to his feet!


Tolbowl is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Johnson fakes the body blow, causing Tolbowl to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Tolbowl goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!
