The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Anderson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Chaney looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Anderson controlling the position from side mount. Anderson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Chaney sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Chaney wants to control but Anderson is keeping busy and won't allow it. Anderson prevents Chaney from improving his position. Anderson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Chaney works his way to full guard. Good work. Chaney is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chaney pushes a forearm under Anderson's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Anderson is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Chaney! James Chaney retains his welterweight title!
