Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eric Springsteen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sam Stinker! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, David Schapiro and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stinker throws a right and a left that Springsteen avoids nicely. Stinker is trying hard to land a takedown here. Springsteen sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Springsteen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Springsteen moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Springsteen doesn't manage to clinch there - Stinker circles away.
Stinker swats away the attempt to clinch by Springsteen. Springsteen rushes Stinker and presses him up against the cage. Stinker is trying to drag Springsteen to the mat but Springsteen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Stinker misses with the head strike.
Springsteen tries to land a knee to the head but Stinker blocks with his arms.
Springsteen with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Springsteen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Stinker tries to clinch up but Springsteen circles away and keeps his distance. Springsteen wants to clinch up but Stinker keeps it at a distance. Stinker is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Springsteen slaps away a takedown attempt from Stinker, before circling back to the center of the mat. Eric Springsteen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Stinker. Stinker dives in and grabs Springsteen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Springsteen pushes down on Stinker's head and hops out. Stinker rushes Springsteen and presses him up against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stinker wants to take the fight to the mat but Springsteen manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Springsteen connects with a nasty looking knee right to Stinker's face.
Springsteen gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Springsteen scores with a knee to the head.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Springsteen pulls guard successfully.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Stinker wants to pass the guard but Springsteen is keeping the position. Stinker trying to control but Springsteen is working from the bottom. Stinker showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Stinker is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Springsteen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stinker is controlling him. Springsteen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Springsteen is breathing heavily. Stinker passes easily into side control. Nice work. Stinker is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Springsteen has escaped the position, nice work there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Stinker has hold of Springsteen's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Springsteen tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Stinker cranks the arm and Springsteen screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Springsteen, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Sam Stinker! After winning the bout, Sam Stinker thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
